I forgot to mention , after FLASH:POWER DOWN message drawer opened itself and I had command REMOVE DISC. I powered down and back up , went to Settings to reset .Probably different versions reacted differently to upgrade , anyway firmware was loaded successfully .
Shame I came across this forum that late , I could have saved some money on not needed upgrades to my stereo.
Thanks again

New ESS and H8S for Unidisk 1.1 and 2.1
Moderator: Staff
I've inherited a Unidisk 1.1 and it has real trouble recognising any disc inserted until after a power down and then it usually sees the disc and it's content (provided it's not too hot).
I think it's a firmware thing as the symptoms don't seem to be for an old laser. It's self report says this:
ESS: S1520142
H8S: S1150135
Power on time: 602:03:00
H8S time/date: 10:20:59 Sept 12 2003
DVD Audio Key: 558
Mech. Version: 2.20.05.03
Most grateful for any help.
Thanks for all your shared knowledge

Hi
Does your Unidisk have slots on the top of the chassis ?
As far as I remember there was problem with proper ventilation and Linn changed chassis .
If you want to try different firmware I have all ESS versions from 221 up to 231 , send me PM .In my case 231 integrates best with rest of my system and is most pleasurable , 227 is to harsh and 221 bit blunt.
Regards

My problem with using ESS 221 is that the disc drawer gets stuck, and it will not open again until after 2-4 weeks. After sending the Unidisk 1.1 to Linn for service it came back with ESS 231. The most noticable difference was that the fan is working more often with the ESS 231. In terms of tune dem the differences are smaller than with other software versions.
After using the ESS 231 for almost 1.7 years, I decided to try the 221 again around New Year 2013/14.
And, the drawer got stuck during the end of February (2014), as it has done several times in the past. My Unidisk doesn't seem to like the month of February very much. I have now returned to ESS 231 and will stick with that to avoid further problems.
