This is just an update! Thus qouting myself

I have spent nearly three months with my multiwired speakerwires so I am willing to give a report.

The cables are soldered by Mr Lejonklou himself, using all his Vodoo, to knekt bananas.

I have tested various connectors (Knekt/WBT/Deltrons/Audioquest) all but knekts goldplated because speakers and amps is configured this way.

My impression of the custom soldered cables:

A very coherent sound. Nothing stands out, the sound is presented as a whole. It sounds very right.
The treble is very sweet but not rolled off with great transparency. It is possible to play as loud as you wish with no edgy treble.
Thanks to this, it is very easy to follow the tune and this has led me to end my latest six months tuning session (my wife could not believe when I told her yesterday  )

Summary: I am very happy with the soldering job and the Knekts and for the first time in two years I am entirely happy with my system. Time to expand the music library! If you are about to get new speakercables I can give Fredrik my very best recommendation - a true quality craftsmans job :!:

Congratulations, zeedje!!

I'm glad you like your newly soldered cables -- hopefully someday I'll get to sample a set myself (or, barring that, hopefully someday I'll accumulate enough Knekt bananas and improve enough at soldering so as to come a bit closer)! :D

Isn't it amazing how an "edgy treble" can come from the connectors & connections? One wonders how many components people must go through trying to get rid of it, when all along the problem might lie in the simple, humble speaker cable connectors and solder joints.

Many congrats, and please enjoy your system!!

Connectors...

Post by zeedje »

Thank You Ceilidh,

After spending a lot on the boxes and still not being entirely happy I decided to build the system from the ground up, starting with the cheaper(well) stuff.

So I have got the best possible connectors for speaker cables. The same powercords (Powerone). Everything level (free upgrade). A-B-A-testing my actual interconnects and choosing the best for source, second best for the preamp and so on (also free). Still left to do before any upgrade of the boxes would be installing a separate powerline to the system (cheap), which will happen soon as I now know where the speakers will be positioned.

As the old man said: "No matter how fancy house you wanna build, you still have to build it from the ground up!"

An analogy that surely applies to hifi-systems - huh?

Source first in my opinion

Source first is how I've built my audio system, and have no problems with this approach. However, there are those that insist on building a system in reverse.

Hi JohnS,

I just bought some (aluminium) Knekt bananas from Stereo Stereo in Glasgow. Just give them a call - I´m sure they ship them within the UK.
