Error Messages and Malfunction of Leia DS

Post by JeffK »

Hi

I've been using Leia DS for almost a year now without any problems. However, in the past month a few error messages have been appearing and a functional fault has also reared its head!

Error messages 1
Error in function "browse_children"
Content Directory_Browse= -1000

The above error occurs when trying to load 'Artist' and 'All Tracks' but it is an intermittent problem rather than a constant. I do not seem to get the problem when selecting Album, Folder, Internet Radio or Genre.

I note that a similar problem was reported on this Forum by jwka on 2009-03-09. I have read the suggested cause of this problem but should mention that if I use Mediastreamer then Artist, All Tracks and the other groupings listed above load almost immediately without error. That said, I do experience other errors with Mediastreamer but that is a different story!

Error Message 2
Error in function "clear_playlist"
DS-Stop= -1

This is also an intermittent problem

In addition to the above, I'm also experiencing a malfunction in that the blue track title highlight and artwork (if any) for the currently playing track does not stay in sync with the track being played - if that makes sense! Quite often track one of the playlist will operate 'normally' but when the player moves on to the second and subsequent tracks, the blue highlight and artwork show as if track one is still being played.

My set-up is:

Akurate and Sneaky DS running Cara 4 (3.4.3)
Twonky Media V4.4.9 running on a Buffalo Linkstation 500gb
Nokia N810 running V5.2008.43-7
LeiaDS running V0.4 "Mackmyra"
Netgear DG834G Router running V5.01.14 Firmware

I mention the router detail because I experienced a network problem during November that was eventually solved by updating to the firmware version listed above. Since this solution was implemented in mid December the difficulties with LeiaDS have started and also the battery in the Nokia N810 keeps discharging after approximately 12 hours even though a new one has been installed. These may be unrelated to the LeiaDS problems but I thought I would just mention them just in case! An added piece of information is that it appears that the latest Nokia firmware was issued on 11 December which coincides with the date the battery first started discharging. Again, this may be just a coincidence.

I'm sorry if this is rather wordy but I've attempted to provide as much information as possible in the hope that someone can help to identify a cause and offer a solution to the problems I'm experiencing.

This is a timeout, either because your NAS took too long to deliver the data or because there was a too-long pausing within the data stream. Unfortunately these conditions can't be distinguished in versions prior 0.5-3. Version 0.5-3 (which hopefully will be released in the very next days) not only have error messages which are more understandable and useful for the user but which are also more informative for me as supporter.

The command "Stop" couldn't be delivered to the DS because of a network failure. Seems to be caused by an unreliable WLAN connection!?
In addition to the above, I'm also experiencing a malfunction in that the blue track title highlight and artwork (if any) for the currently playing track does not stay in sync with the track being played - if that makes sense! If you have this malfunction, is it only once or will Leia stay on the first track forever?

If you only had the problem sometimes but the next track will be reported successfully, then I'm having the same problem myself, occurring about one time per week since updating to Cara. (Never had this with Bute.) It's the DS which is not reporting the track change to Leia, and when the very next track plays, the DS reports both track changes together. It could be an intermittend fault of the DS, but it could also be a behavour of the DS which is caused by the behaviour of Leia. Very hard to tell, but I changed things a little bit in the very last days but can't say if this had make this problem go away.

If you have this problem permanent, means even the upcoming track changes will not be reported and displayed by Leia, than the DS has given up sending me messages at all. Usually the DS do this if he can't deliver a track change to Leia because of a network failure. If this is the case the problem seems to be the same as the "DS-Stop= -1" one, only in the opposite direction. (Never had this problem myself.)
and also the battery in the Nokia N810 keeps discharging after approximately 12 hours even though a new one has been installed.
I remember someone had the same problem. Will try to find that posting. I remember that it had something to do with the WLAN router, but am not sure about it.
it appears that the latest Nokia firmware was issued on 11 December which coincides with the date the battery first started discharging.
I'm using the latest one on my Nokia N800 and N810 and do not have this problem, so I think this is just a coincidence.

For further analysis it would be nice if you could give me your e-mail address (mine is [email protected].) so I can send you an interims version 0.5-4 the next week-end.

Just found it:

http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/showthread. ... 6#pid36686

mickc has a Netgear DG834PN, but unfortunately he hasn't written what he have changed and how long his uptime is now without recharging. Maybe you just should contact him?

Hi Axel

Thanks for your response to my queries.
I'm a little confused because this problem doesn't occur when using Mediastreamer - the 'Artist' list and all the others will load almost immediately every time I click on the required item!

However, I am wondering whether the N810 tablet has developed a fault that is causing me these difficulties because this afternoon I was playing music on my Sneaky and the wireless connection just dropped out which supports your suggestion that I have an unreliable WLAN connection. To confound this theory, each time I clicked on 'Artist' whilst using Leia DS the list loaded without fault whereas I couldn't get it to load last night!
If you have this malfunction, is it only once or will Leia stay on the first track forever?
Unfortunately, it's not consistent but generally it will stay on the first track and then suddenly catch up when the DS is playing, say, track 5 of the playlist then it sticks again.
For further analysis it would be nice if you could give me your e-mail address (mine is [email protected].) so I can send you an interims version 0.5-4 the next week-end.
I will send you my e-mail address shortly.

I will contact mickc as you suggest.
I'm also going to contact the nearest Nokia Service Centre (which is in Salisbury, Wilts) to discuss this problem with their technical staff.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Hi guys - my uptime is only a little better really - I've just learned to live with it. I have a spare battery and just make sure the spare is always charged. I checked the meta-layer crawler info and stopped that but it didn't seem to make much difference.
I'd also noticed that problem with Leia where the playlist shows the wrong track playing but hadn't contacted you, Axel, as I was unable to reproduce the problem - it only occurs every so often.
Looking forward to the next release - happy to give it a run through if you wish.

Mick

PS Just looked at that thread on the Linn forum, Axel - apologies for not replying to you on there - must have missed your post somehow.

Thanks for the above information. Unless Nokia can help I will have to do the same as you and keep 2 batteries on the go. It's just frustrating that this has happened because I've owned the N810 for over 12 months and until recently I was only having to charge it once every 6 or 7 days. I'm just at a loss as to why the battery has suddenly started discharging after just 12 hours - especially as for most of this time it is in 'Idle' mode!!

This is perhaps a common issue as I too have found my N810 to run out of juice much sooner than before.

Do you also use a Netgear DG834 WLAN router?
