Replacing damaged tweeter

Post by Efraim roots »

Greetings
I have damaged the tweeter on one of my speakers, Elac fs 247. I can buy the exact same tweeter via my dealer as replacement and he told me I don't need to change both of the tweeters (the other one is fine), because they are exactly the same. He said that during the 'running in' time there might be small difference in performance otherwise it will integrate fine. I have heard before that if you blow a speaker element you should change both L + R to get equal performance out of your speakers. What are your opinions/experiences regarding this? I can also say my speaker were new May 2009.
the players of instruments shall be there..

I have visited a couple of companies that make speakers, and from what I've seen, they very rarely match their drive units in pairs. So unless the manufacturer clearly states that this is necessary, I'd say you need only replace the damaged one.

If you need to solder the drive unit to the speaker's internal wires, there could a bit of difference from that. If so, one solution is to resolder both units; the new one and the undamaged one on the other speaker.
