Listening Position - Chairs

Post by SaltyDog »

One of my favorite audio tweeks.

Comfortable for long listening sessions.
Easy to adjust height of your ears to THAT spot.

So what is the name and model and where do we find this lovely chair?

It would be great to get other people's opinions on comfortable listening chairs as I would like to procure something like this within the next year or so. I have had my eyes on the Ekorness Stressless recliners for years. They certainly felt comfortable in the store but I wonder about how they are for longer periods. About five years ago I bought a couple of Ekornes clones at a really good price hoping they would give me the same support but they actually hurt your back if you sit through a movie in them so we don't use them any more - teach me to try to get by on the cheap!

Let's see where forum members like to place their bottoms! :)

I can recommend the DUX Superspider, extremely comfortable. Unfortunately I haven't been able to afford one myself yet. As Chairs go, the DUX Pernilla 69 is also pretty hard to beat.

The Final Tweak

Post by SaltyDog »

http://www.amazon.com/Zero-Gravity-Perf ... B0000UNPUW What I use. Purchased ~ 6 yrs. ago.

A cheap alternative. I use a very similar one on the boat and in the back of my work truck. Not going to be blessed by SWMBO. http://www.amazon.com/Strathwood-Anti-G ... im_dbs_k_5

The beauty of these is that they are comfortable and when reclined the height of your ears change. Once you know what's comfortable and puts the ear-tweeter position you like you can then adjust the nearer/further from the speaker position to hit the best bass.

While I mention having had this chair for 6 years or so, I just returned it to use in the listening room. When I first bought it I had (still have but not using) full LK system with LP12, Karik/Numerik, Karin, 4 klouts, tuneboks, and keltiks. I pronounced it (that mythical accomplishment) the "final tweak". Two moves later I am in a house with a new system and SWMBO got the obligatory new furniture. (That home theater bargain stuff that makes you think of the stressless brand until you sit for a while.) The new KDS-KK-ATC50 system REQUIRES long sittings. So while home alone Friday night I had had enough of the newer furniture and have moved the Zero Gravity Chair into the room. Now this may come as surprise, but I'm not totally crazy. So I have the ZGC sitting in front of the furniture she wants. It blocks one of the recliners. There is room to move the ZGC off to the side of the room out of her way when not being used, where it may be allowed to stay. The compromise price of a vacation for her and my daughter has already been paid so this good timing.

Anyway, the ear height, comfort and musical TuneDem have returned to the (bold and knowingly subject to all the flaming to follow) "final tweak" thought. (The struggle involving subwoofers withstanding )

Getting the most from the tweeters also improves the bass.

Such an improvement needed to be shared with you.
