Kikkin or Creek OBH-22?

Post by psmith »

System is Uphorik and a pair of active AV5125's driving 242's.

Will the Uphorik output be loud enough without preamplification? I.e. will the OBH-22 do the business or do I need a good kikkin?

On my previous amp (82/hicap/250) Uphorik output seems quite high as I never have to go above 50% on the dial.

What do you think?

Hi psmith!

Apologies for not having answered your question before. Perhaps you already know the answer by now?

The OBH-22 is a passive volume control and I don't particularly fancy their musical qualities compared to a good active volume (Kikkin 1.1's are being sold out for €450 and could be worth auditioning). But in my experience, full volume on a passive volume control will provide a loud enough volume when driven by a Uphorik. Even for party levels.
