Experimenting with CD replay for some years now I can say that it is possible to get any kind of sound out of a CD by changing the setup of ones system.
Some not musical at all, some quite musical and good sounding, a few very musical and good sounding……….. but at the end of the rainbow CD’s made from recordings using a mastertape sounds like music….. recorded onto tape! You hear the hiss and the tape passing the tape head.
Some will say that listening to tape is boring. I like it but in the world of hifi anything is possible. As long as the result is musical go for whatever you like and enjoy. :-)

What do we find “at the end of the rainbow”?
It’s that live feeling…………….

That’s all we want isn’t it, just to enjoy music. If only it were that simple - we each have to find our own way there. You’ve been on quite a journey esp the last few years of CD player tweaking. Just goes to show the medium itself was musically engaging all along and it was the player at home that was the issue.
