Power Cords and Ethernet Cables

I've had the opportunity to play with power cords and Ethernet cables over the last few months.
None of the Ethernet cables I tried convinced me, they were no better musically than my Blue Jeans Cat 6a.
It is similar with the power cords. However, there is a power cord, which surprises me. With these, everything literally clicks into place. The music suddenly makes a lot more sense. It's really amazing.
Until now, the original Linn power cord was the best fit. But now this.

The question I ask myself is:
Is this power cord really bette, or could it be that it just shows that the previous position of the speakers was not the best after all? My speakers have been in the same place for years and their position has been the best I could find.

What are your thoughts on this?

Incidentally, a very expensive Ethernet cable in conjunction with this power cord messes everything up again, the music disappears into the confusion again.

Is this secret power cord better? How would we know? We don’t know what it is!

You bring it as if you cannot believe it or afraid to go against the “Lejonklou” crowd.

Believe your ears and the experience

I myself play with all different cables since a year and I can truly and sincerely say that I never enjoyed my set more then I do now.
The blue jeans Ethernet is the only cable that survived.

Yes, a forum can only guide us. In the end we have to experiment and make up our own mind about what makes us happy. :-)

Hi 🙂...

I have tried many ethernet cables in different price ranges...
Also the Blue Jeans Cable cat 6a that you mention.

The cable that beats the others in my system is...
🔸Neotech NEET-1008 Silver.
It costs only 3500 Swedish money for 1m,.which is 308 euros.

Remember to give all cables "settle-time" before you listen critically,.there can be big differences after a few hours or more.

"Only" €308. And for the 3 m long version, which I believe is likely to sound better, it's "only" €722.

Can you describe what this cable does to the music from you system, Peder? And what is the system?

Hi Fredrik 🙂...

We are familiar with each other,.so I perceive your opening text as a bit "provocative".

I started my "Linn journey" in 1983 in December when I bought my first LP12,.and was schooled in the Tune-Dem method by the best.
Has since become quite well known throughout the decades for being good at installing and optimizing music-systems.

I always start from Tune-Dem,.and as I said, I am very familiar with the method.
I'll come back when I have time to write some more.
BUT Fredrik,.we both know Mats Persson at Classic Design Scandinavia, I have asked him to send you a "burn-in" Neotech NEET-1008 Silver ethernet cable so you can try it yourself.

As usual,.when it comes to "IT stuff" you have to try it in your own system, but this Neotech Silver has proven to work in most systems....
This does not mean that it works vs your products,.but it is reasonably priced for a very good ethernet cable (despite your slightly arrogant statement).

I have spoken to Mats Persson,.so contact him and he will send you a Neo Silver.

Have a good time Fredrik 🙂.

I only know you from your phone calls, Peder.

I put quotes around ‘only’ because I find the prices very high for an Ethernet cable. After having listened to many such cables, the patterns I have found are these:

• Optimal length appears to be around 2.50 meters regardless of the construction of the cable. Longer is OK but gradually worse in a linear fashion. Shorter is not OK as the music gets a restless, disharmonious character.

• None of the really expensive Ethernet cables have been musical. And the same is true for the hundreds of interconnects and loudspeaker cables I have tried over the decades. The correlation has in my experience been 1.0. Really expensive = really bad.

I would be delighted if what you recommend could disprove any of these two patterns, Peder. It’s nice to be right, but wonderful to be wrong. Because when you discover that you’ve been wrong (and I sure have countless of times), new possibilities appear. Doors that you thought were closed are suddenly open.

In order to spend my time wisely, I thought I’d first ask you what this cable does to the music. And what system you’re testing it in. Do you think you could share that with us?

When you have tried many cables, like we all did, some things have become a fact.
One of those things is that there is no relation between price and performance.
I think we all agree on this statement.

The statement that really expensive cables are really bad, is not a fact
It is possible that an expensive cable is better then the current “standard” the majority of Lejonklou owners use right now.
Some people just haven’t found it or are not willing to try expensive cables > which is logical, unless you have money growing in your garden… or are completely satisfied with your current cable-setup.

And there is another aspect: taste
For example: we all use Spotify as recommended to stream our music to KÄLLA, but there are some folks liking Qobuz more.
Musicality is not something general, it’s very specific for everyone > for that reason there is no good and bad and no right and wrong.

What matters most is the question; are you enjoying the music you hear from your set? If yes > good and we are happy for you 👍😉

Exactly Fredrik,.same here, we have talked from time to time through decades but never met.

I have been mentioned from time to time in our hi-fi magazines,.like you.
Has arranged Hifi Shows,.and started a large Hifi and Music Association which became known all over Sweden etc etc.
We are both "Attention To Detail guy's" but have never met, that's how it is sometimes in our long country.

Of course I can write a little more when I have time.
But ask Mats at Classic Design Scandinavia to send you a Neotech Silver so you can try it in your system.
Everything like this must be evaluated in its own system.

In the time it took you to wrote that, you could instead have told us about your HiFi system.
Peder wrote: 2024-06-07 15:17 Everything like this must be evaluated in its own system.
I disagree. Intrinsically good qualities can be heard in any system. There is no magical combination of bad components that turns out good.

Different cables,.for example, have different properties vs. the product it should work against.
You yourself have recommended a special power cable etc earlier over the years.
I have tried it,.and in some constellations it worked less well.

But this Neo Silver generally works well in most systems,.but if it is new, it needs around 160 hours of "burn-in" before it musically beats, for example, Audioquest Diamond's ethernet cable.

By the way,.I share your thoughts you wrote in your longer post Sopper.

AND,.regarding systems, we have tried and evaluated this Neo Silver in lots of systems in the group I participate in.

I myself have three systems.
• An active Linn Isobarik system.
• A tube-amp mono-block system.
• A headphone-system.

All at a relatively high level,.but what I currently find the most "fun" to listen to music through,is my headphone system.

SO,.I'll take later and tell you Fredrik a bit about my headphone-system. This system has given me a new spark in this interest...
With the knowledge I have gained over decades,.to "start over" again with something completely unknown.

Still no answer as to what the cable does to the music nor what system you have tested it in yourself.
Peder wrote: 2024-06-07 16:19I myself have three systems.
"Have three systems" does not mean the same as have tested in my three systems.

If you have tested the cable in the Isobarik system, please write more about which components the system consists of. Possibly it could be the system that most people on this forum are familiar with.
