Linn Classik vs Majik vs Kolektor+LK100

Post by Cobra Dave »

Hello,

I am still very happy with my Boazu and miss it so much during summer vacation so I have started to look for a second system for the "summer house".

Any comments recommendations between these systems that seems to be possible to find for around 500€ or even less.

1) Linn Majik (mid 90's-version)

2) Linn Kolektor + LK100

3) Linn Classik Music

4) Creek P42 + (2 x A42)

5) Rega IO

My main interest/questions about the options above is sound; remote control, built in cd-player, phono stage is more considered as a bonus and not a deal breaker.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

Not directly compared but doesn't the LK Majik-i have a better (i.e. Wakonda-derived) pre-amp stage than the Kolektor?

Classik K with Katans is a very nice system, but due to age, there can be some problems with caps and cd-laser. A Wakonda + LK100/LK140 would be nice.
If you can find the Classik Music 2008, it's worth looking for.

Anyone knows if Classik also has a Wakonda pre-amp?

It's probably related, but doesn't have a phono stage.

To me the mid-90s Majik is the clear winner of the group here.

I used Classik for a number of years, often bi-amping with an LK-85 and at a point the Classik had to go in for service. The dealer kindly lent me a Majik and I thought the Majik was significantly better than Classik alone or in bi-amp mode (driving Keilidhs). More tune, more coherence, more snap.

I also found Kolektor to be an enjoyable pre-amp, but LK-100 rather grey and flabby compared with LK-85/140.

As always, your mileage may vary.
