Wow, what a difference!

I find After much better. Before is stiff, After is flowing unrestricted.

"After" is so much better that it almost makes me think the setup of the speaker is more important than the speaker itself.
How a well setup pretty good speaker could musically outperform a world class one that's not.

I’ve never thought of removing the carpet gripper like that, but it’s clearly worth it!

Oh, yeah! After is much better. Nice of you to take the heavy rug out from in front of the perfromers.

Yes, I'm a bit surprised too.

Both MM decks and all the Naim amps are much happier now - the upper mid peakiness in particular is all but gone.

Valhalla/Ittok LV3/VM95ML/32.5/160:

Whilst more musical than the 32.5/CB160, the 12/BD160 doesn't suit this room or maybe doesn't suit these Kans - too warm / shut-in but I did try them and they're much better than they used to be.

Charlie, are you aware that according to the late Julian Vereker, the mains filter in the Lingo adversely affects the performance of Naim amplifiers? It needs to be unplugged from the mains for this affect to go away. Does your other LP12 use a Valhalla? Maybe you can do a test.

Only the Lingo 1 though and Darran removed the filter in mine (not used in these clips). The L2 onwards are not a problem as far as I'm aware. Thanks for mentioning though. I certainly don't hear any issues with either of mine tbh.

Yep, Valhalla.

Took me many weeks of tweaking to get my Naim Aktiv system sounding just right after I moved it all and switched to the P10 over the LP12 -actually it never ends-, but all this stuff takes time unfortunately and I'm happy to hear that all that time is paying off for you too Charlie.. Sounds great..

I'm a little late to the party, but wow Charlie1, that is not subtle! It shows 'ta go 'ya that it pays dividends to ensure every aspect of the setup is fully optimized!

Too hard for me. I have listened to these clips on my laptops, on my phone, thru headphones and thru speakers. I struggle to feel any difference in my response to the music. Musically, for me, they are identical.

Great song of course. What mix is it? It sounds slower than I remember.

Yep. It's the original version played on a really good system that isn't rushing things.

I got the Manufactured in Germany CD of the 1988 Tracy Chapman album. Does anyone know how good it is compared to the vinyls? It's a full digital recording but these tend to sound the best on vinyl for whatever reason.

Even the German original vinyl pressing sounds pretty good, but I recently bought the US original, which tops it in every way. Sorry, but I haven't compared to the cd...

I do hear a difference in the clips but, initially, was surprised by the extend that people prefer the change. It's only listening to music the past day or two that has revealed the extend of the improvement. Not sure that helps you really :)

What distance to rear wall is recommended for passive Isobariks (with crossover in the stand)?

My Actives are as physically close to the wall as possible with carpet grabber strip removed from floor I have them at 20mm top back edge to wall face. Flat to the wall, no toe in, W/Naim connectors. ...But this is where they are best for my set up, your passive setup may work out differently.

I just finally got around to listening to this. That is a very nice sounding setup you have with the Kans there, Charlie1. I definitely enjoy the Lingo/Ekos2/Adikt LP12 more than the Valhalla/Ittok/AT one. Sounding good!

Thanks tpetsch. My k20 has right angle connectors so that's good. They are about 5-6cm away at the moment. No gripper board in the office either (in eaves of a double garage). I could get them closer though, probably about 4cm without issue. Unfortunately, the construction appears to be some sort of plasterboard followed by a 5cm airgap and then the exterior wall itself.

I am looking forward to putting LK amps back which is something I didn't expect. Late at night, they make quietly played music more special/involving/meaningful. But I'll keep vintage Naim in the office for rocking through the work day.

Really nice Charlie1! Like ThomasOK i much prefer the Lingo/Ekos2/Adikt LP12 deck.

Have you checked the speed of the turntable? It sounds slow to me.
