Prefer the LP12 but not bad for digital :)

Picked up my Valhalla/Ittok deck yesterday, having been fitted with refurbished Karma. It was playing through the new Klimax DSM into 350As and sounded great. I'm amazed how much information was coming off an LP12 back in the mid 80s. Never heard 350As sound that good. Not sure how much of my enjoyment was driven by the clarity and huge sound or how much was musicality driven, but it reminded me of the super clean yet analogue sound you hear from real-to-real tapes. I didn't actual compare it to anything but certainly floated my boat when partnered with an old LP12.

I think it was your old Sondek that held it all together an made it sound good! ;-)

This mirrors my experience of the same source comparison at my dealer's, again with very expensive non-Linn amplification and speakers. The DSM is a great achievement by Linn, but I'd rather listen to the LP12. It's just more musical.

Actually, I'd rather listen to my LP12 via Entity...

Thanks for sharing, beck.
The data of both sources, DSM and LP12, in the video go through the Organik DAC.
So it seems to be important what is happening to the signal long before the DAC.

Matt

Edit:
AFAIK, there was no info about the source of the files for the DSM.

I love this spelling, they do sound very real when fed with well produced tapes :)
