This makes a server like a Taiko Extreme appear like a bargain, considering that a DAC is lower in the Source First hierarchy than a server.

Matt
'Appear like a bargain' is still a lot of money
$40000.....so a saving of £10000 already.
Oh cool, so buying it basically means saving 10 Grand. Whoever would've passed such an opportunity, right? :)

And if I biy four, it's like saving for a very nice car. Too bad Linn left the mobile audio market ;)

Don’t forget that the £30k quoted is for the top of the range 5.1 DS. I’m guessing about £20k for the KDSM and £15k for the KEDSM.

I really wish Linn the best of luck. Meanwhile I will continue to enjoy my simple setup. It really makes me happy.

Have you not got a spare 250,000 krone down the back of the sofa to drop on a new streamer beck? Tough times.

Good point! It’s a relief to have someone acknowledge I’m doing the right thing keeping the apartment rather than buying this new streamer ;)

that reminds me of a video about the Audiophile Club of Athens
https://vimeo.com/25761812
where on of the guys said: „Electricity is 50 perzent of the sound ... for me. You know that! Everybody know that!“

That reminds me of an old joke where one audiophile tells another about a recurring nightmare he has been having: ’I dream that I die and the my wife sells my system for what I told her I paid for it’.

I saw that one before somewhere. It is quite amusing. On the other hand in my experience that amount is probably closer to what it is worth used than what the typical audiophool thinks it should be worth!

Allegedly some shops (also within other enthusiast areas like model trains) charge extra to write a receipt to the amount you told your wife you paid...

On a more serious note; I saw a Youtube interview last year of a New York dealer of second hand audio products. Somewhat surprisingly there where a lot of very expensive high end products that where only a couple of years old. The explanation given was that there was a new market segment consisting of audiophiles who buy their dream systems after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, such as cancer. The systems in the store had been sold by their widows.

This, and the Corona pandemic, helps you realise that you need to enjoy life while you can.

I'm afraid to say that these visits from widows are becoming more common as our main customer demographic keeps aging. However, most of what gets brought in here is mid-Fi junk and worth very little. But there are exceptions like the recent system with a McIntosh MR78 tuner and Nakamichi Dragon, both of which are worth way more than they have any right to be.

From the last “reveal” clips released by Linn on their Facebook page, the new Organik Klimax seems a Selekt-bis

Not sure about, from a marketing POV it would not make any sense to offer Organik with Selekt appearance.

I would say the idea is somewhat Selekt like but much classier. Still with machined from solid chassis. Of course, whether you thought it was classier would depend on how much you like fancy knobs/dials/lights.

There's been a few people I've known that really like components with buttons to push, knobs to turn, and switches to switch. And many times, evaluated a component by how many it had (more was better).
