Any decent streamer?

Hi all!

Does anyone know of any musical streamer sub Selekt/Akurate prices?

That is, if you don't want the hassle with putting one together yourself.

Naim ND5 XS 2 for example? A s/h Majik DSM/3 as a pure streamer? Or for less money, the bluesound node 2i? Etc… I have no clue!

I don't think this has been a topic for a while...

Cheers!

/Henrik

(I have a klimax-ish lp12, Slipsik, 7.1, Boazu 1.1 and Akudorik)

A second-hand Akurate DS/1 or Klimax DS renew perhaps?

As you are experienced with both brands:
How does Auralic compare to Innuos regarding SQ?
Thanks

Hi Matt,

A good question, the answer to which will probably involve an element of "fence sitting"!

It is an almost impossible question to answer. Is one brand better than another based solely on sound quality?

I'm afraid I don't articulate differences in sound 'signatures' very well and hence I prefer to demonstrate products to my customers.

If you were to push me on it, Auralic as a brand, does something very special with vocals. HOWEVER, the introduction of the Innuos Phoenix Reclocker takes that range of products to a whole new level, more detail, deeper tighter bass.

I genuinely would be happy with either product - see definition of "fence sitting"!

John.

I have had great results from Sonore’s microRendu, with a linear power supply from Uptone. After having both it and a Majik DS/1 in my system for some time, I found I preferred the microRendu, more toe-tapping and dance-inducing.
It is their entry level product. In your system one of their higher-spec products may be more in the range you’d be after.
Happy listening,
BP

Am I right you used the microRendu with the Schiit Bifrost MB as DAC ?
Thanks

If you have not yet acquired a streamer- my advice would be to try a Sneaky/Sekrit.

These can be picked up for very little and in my opinion sound quite good when paired with a good preamp/amp.

I use them around the house like this, and the one with the Boazu/Komponent 110s sounds really enjoyable.

A second hand Majik DS is rather cheap as well.
Majik DS with Majik-I (both 2013/14 production) is quite a lot better than a DSM/2 si I would assume that the DS is better than the DSM (but I have not tried and the DSM can have power amp and most stuff shut off).

I’m gonna have to put in an absolute internet classic, ie suggesting something that the OP specifically didn’t ask for...

I asked pretty much the same question last winter, quite confident my computer skills were insufficient for DIY.

But the advice on here was very clear - if you want truly good bang for your buck in the digital realm DIY is the way to go. So I had good read though the Hakai section and eventually concluded I would be able to figure things out. And I did and for me it really was worthwhile, both performance and learning wise.

I’d read through the Hakai section once more and reconsider whether something like that could work for you.

Do you mean just a streamer? Or a streamer that includes a DAC?

Updating my earlier post - While I stand by the quality of the microRendu, I have found that with the DS, by doing virtual tunedem with speaker placement (using the tune method and changing Sound Optimization settings rather than moving speakers around in my listening room) I get a fuller, denser, purer listening experience in my room. The improvement is such that the DS is now a fixture in my main system.

This also suggests that SO is superior musically to the equalization tool in Roon - which I had employed in the microRendu setup.

Happy listening,
BruceP
