This will be interesting ... retro - fittable to any LP12 ...

Well well.

Looks like solid engineering enhancement to me. In all this is maybe a milestone because most say the LP12’s core sound is fundamental to the bearing.

Exciting!

I like the retrofittable to 'any' LP12 too.

thank you for the information sunbeamgls
does someone know how much is it and I am sure it needs a new inner platter too?

The Karousel will come as an upgrade kit selling for $975US. It will include the bearing housing, inner platter/spindle, springs and grommets, a ground wire and finally suspension nuts and washers. No mention of oil or belt but they may just have overlooked one or both. Note, there should have been an asterisk on the "Retro-fittabe to any LP12" line as they have advised us it is not to be used with "Nirvana or Valhalla PSUs or 3rd party clones" due to electrical safety concerns. More information from the press release:

Karousel, Linn’s new precision-engineered single-point bearing, offers smoother rotation and greater stability for even better sound from your Sondek LP12.

This innovative new take on our original bearing design has been made possible by technological developments in material science, machining capabilities and mechanical engineering expertise gained from almost half a century of designing and manufacturing the world’s best turntable. That vital union between the platter, spindle, bearing and sub-chassis is now the strongest we’ve ever achieved.

A new diamond-like carbon coating inside the bearing reduces friction between the tip of the spindle and the base of the bearing itself. This reduces the ‘noise floor’ of the turntable, so improves musical reproduction.

The substantial lock-nut fastening on the stainless steel housing increases rigidity at the critical point where bearing and sub-chassis come together. Enhancements to the base of the bearing include a stronger housing for the thrust pad, combined with a smaller, stiffer coated form, to improve the critical area that supports the platter rotation and mass, meaning your vinyl reproduction is more accurate and detailed than ever before.

With Karousel the reduction in friction means that not only will this critical component have a greater lifespan, but your LP12 will continue to give you incredibly accurate listening pleasure for longer than ever before.

Well... for years we have been told the arm cable dressing was/is an important part of the suspension. Suddenly the cable disappear with the Urika.
For years we have been told not to use low friction oil for the bearing since the friction is an important part of - something.
Next thing to go - Any suggestions :-) (just kidding)

“not to be used with "Nirvana or Valhalla PSUs or 3rd party clones" due to electrical safety concerns.”

That’s interesting. I wonder why that is?

The bottom screw on piece is likely too big for the hole in Valhalla, which means it will violate the safety distance.

this can be resolved with a few strips of balsa wood squeezed into the gap...

So you use it with the old innerplatter? Going to be interesting to hear this upgrade!

Tom said above it comes with new inner platter/spindle.

EDIT:
Found new pics...

You mean you don't want suspension?

Why not use electrical tape?

it looks like the complete inner platter is also a new material like stainless steel ... but might be just polished marketing pictures

is the connection to Keel now 4points instead of 3points as it looks different in the pictures above

I think the hole is simply too small.

The kit includes the inner platter/spindle, seen in the photo from Charlie1, as it always has with the Cirkus kit. As far as we have been informed there has been no change to the inner platter/spindle. I imagine they would have said so if it had changed too. The fixing to a subchassis is basically no longer 3 points, nor is is 4 points. A claimed advantage of the Karousel is that the contact is now all around the circumference of the bearing housing with the cap holding the bottom to the subchassis. The three nubs you see are for locating the bottom of the Karousel to the subchassis. This is said to "increase rigidity at what was previously the weakest point". Interestingly the Keel will still have somewhat of a three point mount as there are three raised lands on the bottom of the mounting area, similar to what there is on the Kandid and Krystal. But on all other subchassis the mounting will be flat and circular on both sides.

I'm quite sure new torques and sockets to apply them will be needed - I see a lot more work ahead!

It was a joke about the Radikal / shallow plinth issue.
