The Netgear is my pick.

Telling people beforehand what they're opining on is pointless. At best.

The blind tests are the only way to go.

I am not fooled by names and prices. I don't care that I know what is being played.
But well, the order and the names has been changed.

Hey FairPlayMotty,
thank you for deleting the quote.

Have you already found a favourite?

12/Lars seems more musical than the others.

EDIT: Eli7, you’ve changed the labels from numbers to names. Can you tell me what name corresponds with 12, or do I need to listen again?

A late, tired me tried to connect to your examples with an middle aged iPad.
The outcome was: Peter & Florian did it for me. The other 3 had partly really bad timing.
Will crosscheck via songcast on my stereo later.

I have a Melco switch on loan from a friendly dealer in my hood, the 2nd time. First time it was OK but not thrilling.
Now it sits with this "Adot optical kit" between my Router (FritzBox 7390) and the Melco N1ZH60/2 NAS.
Maybe my network is affected by problems I didnt know til now, but it is astonishing that its much better this way, even when playing NAS stored files... remember: the NAS has an input and an output RJ45 connection - so its:

Router -> Melco S100 -> Melco NAS -> Linn DS

... and the switch is not dirctly involved in playing NAS stored files. Its only a galvanic separation from the Router (?!) or did I miss something?
I should try other stuff for galvanic separation from the router.
But, as long as it is here, will try the Melco S100 between NAS and DS, with and without opticals.

Hello Spannko, thank you very much for listening.
!2 = Lars

The network isolator 62619 from Delock is worth a try. It costs almost nothing.

I tried numerous switches, most recently a Cisco 2960 (after discussion on Selleri.de). I own three models of Netgear, three or four by TP Link. The one that blows the rest away is by Harting. Thanks to Tendaberry (by memory).

Interesting, which Harting do you use?

20761053000. It wasn't the model that Tendaberry (?) recommended but either it's a coincidence or Harting make very good switches.

It's server rack mountable and the smallest switch I own.

The recommendation for Harting was by Germanchu not Tendaberry.

Thanks for the info. As always, clips would be good. Netgear vs. Harting, for example.

Speaking of comparative clips.
What's wrong with you guys? Don't you want to cast your vote on Melco vs. Netgear?
Actually, I thought it might be interesting for many. I guess I was wrong. It was a lot of work. If the resonance stays like this, there won't be any more clips from me, it's just too much of a waste of my time.

Of course, a big thank you goes to those who made the effort. Thanks to Beck, Spannko and Kompak.

The switch recommended by Germanchu was this one:

They don't have barrel power inputs. You buy a power supply and strip wires. But it's worth the effort.

No, you weren't wrong. It is interesting. Thanks for doing it.

However, comparing 5 different version is also a lot of work! :D I found it quite tiring. In the end I think I have a small preference for Florian, with perhaps Lars as a runner up.

It was distracting that the recording volume was so low - I had to turn it up quite a lot - fearing that a sudden loud sound would blow out my eardrums at any moment!

Agree,
I think the differences are not huge and comparing 5 different versions is too difficult (at least for me).
I would suggest to compare only two (with only one variable changed) at one time and then do a comparison of the winners of two comparisons to get the best out of four.
For example:
Comparisons:
1. Netgear with different PS
2. Melco with different PS
3. Compare winners of 1 and 2
4. Compare the winner of 3 with/without fiber added

I agree completely. I make lot of listening comparisons in my work, and the key is to make them as clear and simple as possible.

I enjoy listening to clips on this forum, it's fun and there's always something new to learn. But when there are more than two options or the comparison isn't clearly defined, I pass.

Nice clips.

Much preferred 2.

Interested to know which one is the Melco switch.

I have just moved from GS108 v4 to GS108T v3 ( v2 not available) big improvement.

Stunned at the price comparison: Melco more than 20 times the price of the Netgear? I realise that it's often a case of diminishing returns, but the difference between the clips seems considerably less than the difference in price - I prefer clip 2; hoping that's the Netgear but, even if that's the Melco, I'd be more inclined to put the extra $$$ towards a Kålla, than switch switches.

I much prefer 2 as well. Don't always find it easy when comparing digital music clips but this was an easy one. 2 seems more together like his singing and guitar belong together. But it's what you prefer that really matters.
