What difference did you find and can you explain why the cleaning made a difference?

Many thanks

A simple matter of small partikels from the rubber belt sticking to the mentioned parts. When cleaning them off it can be heard.

Maybe the belt itself should be left untouched. Some have mentioned that isopropyl can effect the belt in a bad way.

AFAIK, in the past Linn told their dealers to take furniture polish for cleaning the belt.

True. They even supplied the can of polish.

BUT: When we critically evaluated the effect of the polish, it turned out to sound much worse than a belt cleaned with water only. The reason behind the polish turned out to be not primarily for sound reasons, but for a smooth start with the old motor controllers (mains, Valhalla, Lingo) that apply full speed and high torque at once, causing noise and belt wear.

The best way to clean the belt is in my opinion to lightly wet part of a clean cotton cloth with lukewarm water, drag the belt through that wet part for a while and then drag it through a dry part of the cloth. Both will have light stripes of black residue afterwards and the belt sounds a tad better.

Great stuff guys, much appreciated!

Having taken note of discussion I recently took off my newer Linn belt (well over 100 hrs run in) and went hunting for my old belt to test. It is very conceivable that this belt dates back to the 80s and one of the main reasons I coughed up for the price hiked new belt.

Old belt was better. Couldn't believe it :)

Cheers folks!
