True. They even supplied the can of polish.
BUT: When we critically evaluated the effect of the polish, it turned out to sound much worse than a belt cleaned with water only. The reason behind the polish turned out to be not primarily for sound reasons, but for a smooth start with the old motor controllers (mains, Valhalla, Lingo) that apply full speed and high torque at once, causing noise and belt wear.
The best way to clean the belt is in my opinion to lightly wet part of a clean cotton cloth with lukewarm water, drag the belt through that wet part for a while and then drag it through a dry part of the cloth. Both will have light stripes of black residue afterwards and the belt sounds a tad better.
