New surround decoder module for Akurate/Klimax DSM

Post by Tendaberry »

At the end of January Linn will launch a new surround decoder module to be integrated into the Akurate and Klimax DSM (and System Hubs). It allows for up to 7.1 channels and can decode the following formats: DTS-HD Master Audio,DTS-HD High Resolution Audio,DTS 96/24,DTS,Dolby TrueHD,Dolby Digital Plus,Dolby Digital,PCM.

The upgrade costs € 1.430,- However, your DSM has to have the HDMI 2.0 module and also Exakt inputs. If your surround channels are Exakt, you just connect the Exakt-Link, do the setup and that's it. If you have passive loudspeakers, you'll need an Exakt box.

Even more 'interesting' is the addition to LinnDocs yesterday

...it was added commented out, so you can't yet see it in the live page.

Indeed. This is great - an Exaktbox-i can be added to cover centre, rear and sub channels making going surround with Exakt far more cost effective. I have an Exaktbox 10 and an AV5125 that could also do that job. A passive pass-through Exaktbox makes a lot of sense for this - essentially a DAC per channel rather than a DAC per driver.
