One of my favorites of all the pieces they have done.

"Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can?"

Curious whether anyone here has experience of using separate streamer & DAC, and whether they really work out cheaper or better musically than a Linn DS, or Naim network player...
I can see that a particular music streamer might support a stream that Linn don't yet, and that you can choose what formats are supported in a separate DAC, and update them separately as needed. I'm just wondering if this choice comes with a musical penalty for the convenience, or can these devices surpass the musicality of a K(R)DS(M)? If so, what sort of price point do you need to budget?

No experience so far, but I would like to try Bricasti M5 + Schiit Yggdrasil.
They are a good match according to reports on CA.
Both manufacturers are conservative like Linn and do not launch new models every year.
This combo is around 6k in comparison to KDS at nearly 19k in Germany.

I don't know the reviwer of this magazine. But it seems like he is not amused. In the end, they listen to a streamer that costs GBP13,000 plus a minor fortune for some PSU. And, the conclusion is

"it retained a sense of richness and organic depth to the sound, but not at the expense of the pace of the music (understandably, given the company it hails from). This was just a slice of how these players perform and the sound of the system wasn’t giving the kind of stereophony or bottom end definition I would necessarily seek on any of the tracks, but it did show up the good-better-best differences well."

For this amount of money I expect to get knocked out of my socks by the performance of the artist, not hearing some "organic depth" from a hifi system.

Yes, odd review.

BTW, for me the price tag of the ND5 XS 2 (1,999 £), with digital inputs, seems interesting.

It seems reasonable that the differences could be heard, regardless of liking or not liking the rest of the system.

I think the reviewer was being extraordinarily polite about a system that contains Utopias.

Quick report. Heard the base player (3-4k something with Naim integrated and Neat SX2) and it was quite ok. But without comparing, hard to judge.
For sure not bad but expected as Linn and Naim streamers always perform a good step better than other players.
It's all about musical understanding!
