Interesting. The aptitlig has been mentioned by others as a good shelf to put under your Hi-FI. Although I have my doubts as to its usage under other things compared to the Harmonihyllan shelves I haven't actually tried it yet. But I can see how it might work fine under an LP12. I'm sure bolting it down would kill it but mounting upward facing spikes to the brackets might give you the best of both worlds (leveling and rigid support). Always more things to experiment with!

how do you interface the board to the console?

I just drilled holes in the board, leveled it with paper, and fastened it loosely with cable ties. Fastening with screws would likely kill it.
Am I right that you use the cable ties for security reasons only?

FM radio is amazing. My wife bought a cheap radio for the kitchen in BILTEMA. Around 80 danish kroner. I stand here a Sunday morning and just enjoy the music so naturally. It does not go loud. You have to fight to get a good signal but when you get it you feel what the musicians are telling you. Just amazing.

My father has a DAB radio (digital) in his kitchen. More expensive but still low-fi. It cannot do music the way my little radio does.

The Jbl studio 530 outperfoms most standmount speakers. They are really good value bought second-hand.
I have not yet been able to compare this speaker with akurate 242, but its possibly that the jbl:s are better.

Q Acoustics standmounts with big reductions at Richer Sounds

Great little speakers which perform way better than their price and size would suggest.

I got the 2020i speakers at £130 years back and am blown away by performance to cost. Recommended to a friend a few months back and they were down to £70 lol. Exceptional performance and value if you are looking at the budget end.

Ps he loves them too and isn't greatly into hifi so great no matter what your inclination.

Q acoustics?

Not heard them. They seem to cost well above £300 here.

Meant to add that I have them powered in my second system by a vintage NAD 3020i which I got for £60. It really is a great wee backend for sub £200 :)

I was hoping to improve upon this:
https://www.robertdyas.co.uk/connect-it ... m-ext-lead

by using the following with a Linn mains lead:

However, alas, no good :(

In ear headphones qjays

Post by Per A »

qjays in ear headphones

I got these nuggets at full price but Swedish food chain Ica sell them at one third of that.
I have owned Etymotics 6 and 4 before but I was so impressed when I tried them in a hifi store that I bought them straight away in spring. I like them better every day.
I don’t use any separate dac or amp but just my iphone 6. Very good.

That is a great price considering it equates to about $113US and Amazon wants $279US for them here.

Thanks for the tip, Per!

Can you please explain how these are connected to an iPhone without a headphone jack? Do I need to use Apple's lightning to 3.5 mm adapter? I am not all that happy with that adapter and often prefer Bluetooth. Not that I spend much quality time with my iPhone as the source.

I can recommend the FiiO BTR1 portable Bluetooth headphone amp. Small, light and great sound for relatively little money.
It connects to iPhones and other mobiles via Bluetooth and has a 3,5 plug so you can continue to use your favorite non-Bluetooth headphones.

For anyone in Scandanavia, these are a bargain:

https://www.finn.no/bap/forsale/ad.html ... =129863634

I own a pair and they're the finest loudspeakers I ever heard. My pair has an upgraded tweeter made by the manufacturer. Just tell your wife, as I did, that they're just a little larger than the speakers you currently own!

I like to recommend this DAC:

https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/diy-dac/ ... 13062.html

USB and SPDIF inputs.
USB Vbus powered, for SPDIF you need a 5V PS.

This DAC needs at least 20h burn in.

Tuneful, musical, lifelike in my set-up.

Hi Matt!

Did you compare this DAC to ESI Gigaport? If so, what were your findings?

Hi Fredrik,

not yet.
During burn in of the Khadas I was a little bit unhappy and considered to do it..
A second reason is that I am listening to a free trial of Qobuz Studio which allows streaming of 24/192 and AFAIK the ESI supports only 16/44 or 48 with Mac.

This summer I set up a second system at our summer house:
Mobile internet router
Yamaha NP-S303 digital streamer
Naim Nait 5 integrated amplifier
Naca 5 speaker cable
Tannoy System 600 speakers on Target stands

I bought the speakers the amplifier and the cables second hand at a good price. At first I listened to my iphone straight into the amp which sounded quite nice but the weak signal meant the volume had to be at maximum to get a decent experience. A good friend very knowledgeable in hifi recommended the Yamaha which turned out to be very good for the money. I did not want a second hand streamer to avoid any compatibility issues and a new Linn or Naim are too expensive for the purpose.
The signal is strong from the streamer. The system plays very well as it is and we are happy with it. Because I already had the speakers and stands it was good bang for the buck.
I recommend the Yamaha.

Listen to your iphone

Post by Per A »

I discovered that placing my iphone X on my chest while lying on the couch actually gives an astonishing stereo illusion. Everybody can hear it sounds awful from a distance but like this it is quite good. Make sure you place it vertically though.
