Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Doesn't surprise me that the Silvers make digital sources more palatable, that's what they were designed for since the day I first opened a CD12 box back in 97' and saw them included.
But saying that it's still pretty obvious to me that the blacks hold it all together better, this can especially be heard between between the 21 and 30 seconds mark.

In these clips, I find your Blacks superior to your Silvers. And by quite a margin.beck wrote: ↑2023-05-14 08:45 Linn Black:

You decide. I like them both. :-)
I find Blacks more even in quality than Silvers. And it has been said before: I don’t think your Silvers are as good as they should be. When I compare the cables at the lab or those at home, the Silvers outperform the Blacks.
If someone could provide me with an in-depth collaboration agreement with a competent cable manufacturer, I think I could make a cable that outperforms them both. I have twice tried negotiating my way into such an agreement, but in the end, they were not interested enough and pulled out.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Thank you all for your comments.
The main thing for me is that I now can enjoy playing CD’s using any of them.

To my own surprise I ended up using my Silvers with a slightly changed system setup.
Linn Silver (changed setup):

It might not be the best from a “Tune” standpoint but with this setup I can float away. :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
The easiest thing I can suggest -and what was the most obvious to me right away- is listen to this new Silver setup and then go back to your link of the Blacks and have a listen to which one you think is easier to follow the bass drum kicks.beck wrote: ↑2023-05-17 10:24 To my own surprise I ended up using my Silvers with a slightly changed system setup.

Want to post a fun A/B?
Run a set of blacks -or Silvers- with the signal going in the direction of the cable arrows as advised (A), then try it reversed (B), or better yet, don't tell us which is which.

The conditions are not the same, since the first recording was made without tv on top of the cabinet and a while back when recording TM2 vs TM3 clips…
And I think the second clip is louder ,made this afternoon
But can you spot difference anyway?
If yes, Which is your preference and why?
Edit: I’ll redo this at another time, with same conditions, it’s apples and peers now

That's was easy, C1.
C3 is all out of tune by comparison.

This is the kind of music, that usually makes me lose interest quickly, as it happened on C1. C3 held my interest longer.Sopper wrote: ↑2023-05-19 14:36 Tuff Puzzle

On these clips I prefer the Blacks. Somehow the Silvers just don't seem to hold things together. I'm with Fredrik in thinking you have a bad set of Silvers.beck wrote: ↑2023-05-14 08:45 Linn Black:

You decide. I like them both. :-)
As a side note it is sometimes surprising the difference a cable change can make. I mentioned in the show writeup our testing of the different BJC cables. One of my dealers upon visiting the room asked me about the preferred length for the BJCs. He had been using 10 feet and I recommended he try 8.5 feet. Just a couple of days ago I got a report from another friend in the industry (who uses Lejonklou electronics). He had been visiting that dealer who had done a blind A/B for him and another person. They found the difference substantial and thought he had changed the preamp or something similar. The change was just from the 10 foot to the 8.5 foot BJC cable. The store owner had been equally surprised at the musical improvement when he put in the 8.5 foot cable. It does all make a difference.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
The JBLs have more punch in the low end but something sounds not right about it compared to the Klångadangs, which I find more musical overall.kallesprätt wrote: ↑2023-05-20 22:22 Speaker comparison, which do you prefer?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
To me, the klagedang’s are not really swinging. They appear to struggle slightly with pitch and timing. In this respect, I prefer the jbl’s. In terms of vfm, the jbl’s are stellar, but there’s still something I don’t like about them. Maybe an over processed presentation which sounds a bit unnatural?
Do you have Karousel kallesprätt?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I own a pair of both and find Klångedang T1 with a decent power amp better than JBL 308.kallesprätt wrote: ↑2023-05-20 22:22 Speaker comparison, which do you prefer?

In your clips I hear the same.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I also find the Klångedang T1 to be an improvement but I also suspect them to still be relatively new and still need breaking in as I expected a lot more detail and feeling/texture from them.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
They acually fill the room quite well.
It is easy to like the low end, but I also prefer the Klångedangs overall.
Yes, my Lp12 has KarouselSpannko wrote: ↑2023-05-21 09:24 To me, the klagedang’s are not really swinging. They appear to struggle slightly with pitch and timing. In this respect, I prefer the jbl’s. It seems most like the Klångedangs more.
My Klångedangs is one of the first if not the first pair to leave Tonläget, so I suppose they are fully broken in.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Kallesprätt, are your Klångedang T1's of the latest model, Rev 6?
