Ok, thanks!

Curious what creation you’ll end up with. I’d sure be happy to try it, just like your crimped copper bananas!

If you're looking for posts about loudspeaker internal wiring, they've been moved to their own thread, here.

Hello everybody

I haven’t been posting here for many years. But now I managed to do some clips with two different preamplifiers. Non of them is listed in my profile. I wonder which of them you find more musical. My Kandid is 5 years old and has probably more than 5000 hours on it. Hopefully it will get a replacement next week. Because I have to return one of the pres next week I can only make the comparison with the old Cartridge.

Nice to hear that your Kandid is still going - mine is only 4 years old but starting to lose its edge.

I prefer B on all clips. It seems better able to present a coherent musical picture.

I'm with David on this. I find B more musical on all three tracks. I did notice that Bourée sounded a bit muted on both tracks. Initially I thought it might be a finger partly covering a mic but the tracks looked too steady to be handheld. Nice variety in the tracks.

B for me as well on tracks 1 and 3. I couldn't get me ear into 2 so will take a pass on that.

Similar to Thomas, I thought the tracks sounded a bit muffed for 242s - not out of phase are they, or perhaps a phone case blocking the mic?

The Tracks were recorded on an iPad sitting on a stool. The clips sound really bass heavy. Not at all like it sounds in the room. The Cartridge is on its way out that might be a reason. Some records even sound rather harsh, quite the opposite of muted. Maybe I'll post some clips after the new Cartridge is installed. Many thanks for the feedbacks anyway.

I’m going to go against the grain here and say that although the A’s are a bit messy and the B’s more in control, there’s something about the A clips that I like.

Initially I preferred 1B to 1A, but on the second track I started getting that feeling that A had something that B was missing. And I felt the same on track 3.

I think I’ll stay on the fence and say they’re doing different things right.

Very nice upgrade! Yeah, the Källa is still surprising in how close it comes to an LP12. You might want to try taking the dust cover off when playing the LP12. I find it more musical that way.
