Spannko wrote: 2021-09-18 11:16 So it’s a 5-3 win for the 32/snaps/160 combo! Thanks for the clips Offerdal. That’s a lovely system you’ve got there, and in many ways similar to charlie1’s system, which also sounds great.
Spannko, You need to redo your math. First off Charlie1 split his vote liking 1 on one clip and 3 on the other. Then tokenbrit changed his vote from 3 to 1 after additional listening. So the voting ends up:
4 votes for clip 1 (Nait 2)
3 votes for clip 3 (32/SNAPS/160)
and 1/2 vote each for 1 and 3

If I read it right it seems Offerdal is also coming down on the side of the Nait 2 for overall musicality.

Interesting comparison, thanks for the clips. Although I should mention that none of the clips were tuneful enough for me to understand the lyrics. ;-)

1. Naim nait 2 CB recap 2020
2. Naim 32BD-160BD No recap
3. Naim 32BD-Snaps BD-160BD No recap

I hear the same as you with 1 and 3. The 3 try alot and is Good at the hifistuff but the nait is very Good!

Tried a red nait 1 last winter but find it hard for the nait 1 to drive the klångedang.
I'm really surprised 2 is not working better than 3. Whenever I've tried with CB Snaps / Hicap I've always preferred without. I even tried again with 32.5/CB160/Saras a few months ago (thinking the demanding Saras might change things) but concluded the CB Snaps just messed up the timing.

Maybe I need to get hold of a bolt down Snaps and try that with the 12/BD160. However, I listened to the clips again and clip 2 sounds a bit different to the others. Could the channels have been the wrong way around? If so, this will have a negative impact on the music.

So, are you planning to keep the 32/Snaps/160 then, or maybe go for a service?

The price of Nait 1/2 is quite a surprise now. Probably get £1,000 for a mint CB Nait 2 with box.

I would recommend having all the Naim pieces powered up for a week before making any comparisons.

I would end up with the 1.0 setup (guessing it is the Supernait). I like the musical flow better. To me the 2.0 setup seems a little stiff even if it “produces” a bigger more “detailed” sound.

I found 2 more tuneful which helped the Madonna track and its core driving melody.

But on the eagles track I preferred the timing / togetherness of option 1.

1 is like Lingo 1 and 2 like Lingo 2 in my system. Not sure that helps at all though 🤔

This clip is with the Karousel bearing fitted to my LP12, I used a new phone to record and wonder what you think of the recording and the LP12 tune of course

Sounds good!

Get a good feel for the sound in the room and not too much in the way of room noise (i.e. reflections)

Seems tuneful to me :)

2...
Prefer 1 - there's more time for the notes, and the music just develops more...
2 seems rushed like they don't trust the tune.

It's very clear - I thought it might be a bit bright to begin with, with the saxophone, then the deep vocals began... Good range, and seems to convey the tune & musicianship; just difficult to say much more in isolation.
Do you feel the recording properly reflects what you hear & feel in the room?

There is more to it in room, but the recording pretty much sums up what I hear.

I just realised that something went wrong with the suspension. It was bouncing fine in the jig, but with the trampoline on and the deck up on the wallshelf the suspension is really stiff. I need to adjust it again.

Here I'm for 2, with photo finish, slightly more tuneful and draws me in to the music little bit easier.

The level of the turntable in the jig vs. the level of the turntable on the wall shelf with the Trampolin installed is likely not the same.

yes the LP12 especially with the Trampolin „hangs“ down at the back where the motor and the armpillar is because its heavier at the back. I already thought about using it with normal feet instead of the trampolin.

Or you level it with the wallshelf if you can ... rather have an off level wallshelf as an off level LP12

The 1 is
Naim 32BD-SNAPS BD-160BD
And the 2 is
Naim 32BD—160BD

That is the same setup that I used earlier but this time they was connected about 10 days each before recorded. I was also confused about earlier clips when without snaps was bad. Heard Charlie1 clips many times and always preferd without separate power. They had last time 3 days ”warming time”

I dont think there is much between these clips. Overall 1 better but a bit better drive in 2. Tunedem in room pretty equal between them.

Thanks for all comments

Just goes to show you should never make assumptions and instead listen first. Would be keen to try a bolt down SNAPS now.

I carefully set plinth level in the jig and the wallshelf has spikes so it is adjusted so that the plinth is level. Something else is wrong, i suspect that the ground cable from trampolin is touching the front spring. I have to open it again and see what's wrong.

Adjusted suspension is considerably worse for me - the singer's wit and humor is diminished, and the band is mucho blasé instead of sweetly swinging (albeit in a lounge lizard sort of way).

Please note this is from someone who uses Mana on a suspended wooden floor so grains of salt required

I also prefer 2 on both of these (1.2 and 2.2) and I really don't find the difference slight. The .1 versions sound a bit squashed and just never seem to get going (movement wise). 2.2 made me want to keep listening to Hotel California despite how many times I have heard it, 2.1 did not. (Although I still do like this piece despite the overplaying it gets on classic rock stations. Maybe because I lived in Hotel California for 6 years so it has extra meaning.)
