I like them a lot although I've come down from the initial high :)
I want to give them more power/control cos the bass isn't great at times, although it doesn't bother me too much
They don't boogie as well as any of the older Linn speakers I've tried but they're not too bad - plus I wonder how more power will impact that.
They are lot more tuneful and they are a big step up in resolution, insight and lower distortion. I can play more genres without them tripping up. Kan 1's loved 70s / early 80s music but could really struggle with some modern LPs and even 1960s stuff.

You might need to adjust the volume a touch between clips but there's a reason for that.
B for me

Late to the party, but I think that B grooves much better. Also Phil's voice followed the backing strings much better on B.

Or maybe just the fill?

Overall I like B better or maybe I should just say I dislike A more. B is good but neither is totally exciting me. I found your cutoff point quite amusing. It probably isn't that noticeable when you are listening to the whole uptempo track (at least I don't remember noticing it before and I do own the album) but those vocalizations immediately made me think White British guy trying to sound like a black American. Probably comes from being a native of Motown. ;-)

I agree, I was having difficulty too with this A/B because their both so different one should be obviously better yet I found both somehow just off.. Reminds me of the Duke LP/recording so maybe it's just the board/console and recording techniques Phil chose to use back then.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I think it's time for plan B esp as my attempts to get a fully serviced Klout failed and Darran kinda put me off full stop. One interesting point is that Linn still supply some of the caps, but not everything needed.

I connected the 2016 Majik-i this evening and there is a nice synergy there, despite the lack of power. I didn't think the Wakonda/LK140 was that bad really but knew it wasn't quite right. Probably distracted by the 212 positives. Anyway time to move forward a decade or more and find a more modern power amp. I suppose I better revisit K400 and Silver ICs whilst I'm at it. Maybe get one deck fitted with a Cirkus to nudge that forward a bit too.

I seem to have almost gone full circle with this system.

Could it be your room that is playing tricks on you (us)? The height of it being unusual?

It's been a while since I posted listening clips

Can someone sum up how to make proper clips again?
All I remember: iPhone video recording
Lens covered?
Volume in room playing?
From listening position?

Hi Sopper!

Video recording sounds better than audio only.
I put my phone in flight mode (no interruptions).
Microphones pick up what’s in the picture.
No need to cover the lens.
Fairly loud volume works best for me.
Listening position works but I often record from a closer distance (tripod on a chair in between listening position and speakers is my favourite.)

Yeah, closer you get to the speakers, the less 'room' you'll pickup, but too close is not great either. Just experiment a bit.

I probably record quieter than most here but my phone is a bit peaky in the upper mid and will exacerbate that same tendancy in some of my vintage systems. Again, just have a play around.

Difference is small, but prefer B a tiny bit more

I prefer A.
Edit: To clarify my choice. Even in the beginning but especially when the song gets going, B just doesn't reach the same heights of rock n' roll. ;)

More inclined to B... just seemed a bit more holistic, if a little less impressive. A was opposite: more individual elements, but didn't come together in the same way... 'less' was more for me.

This is a great track for tune-deming beck! A’s out of tune vocals sound way out of tune to me, whereas B’s out of tune vocals sound pleasantly tuneful!

EDIT: After a good night out, I’ve listened again this morning and now I prefer A! I give in!

A has overall tunefulness, B has lost it and a move in the wrong direction IMO..

The funny thing is that I can go from the one sound to the other in 1 second doing it on the fly! I still have a leg in each camp……..
