Beck

Please do tell the difference between the two pairs of blacks - are they Linn standard pairs , different ages perhaps , or different lengths and soldered by someone:

If so , same soldering, same connectors etc etc

I am intrigued by the quite marked Preference I have - mainly in terms of timing and flow.

Are you planning silver vs black in your system?

My blacks are standard (nothing special and identical) delivered with my LK100 and my first Intek so long ago. I have done a demo of my silvers against my blacks in the "Back to Black" tread where you can listen and read comments. Turn to page two to find it!
As it turns out it was my silvers against your least favoured pair of blacks! I will make a new demo later with your favoured pair against my silvers.
When I listen to 1158 and 1159 I do agree that the first pair on many levels do sound better but in one area I do find the last pair slightly better: the strict relation between the notes.

Definitely 8 is more musical and significantly so. Didn't really want to listen to 9 after hearing 8.

1158 for me too. By the way Beck, all your videos are upside down on my Windows laptop. Our iPad will automatically reorientate any videos we play but not the laptop.

I love that Mark Cohn album btw. Not so easy to find on vinyl these days.

u252agz wrote:Much easier when A/B is so quick, as it is here.

In real life when switching over components - not so easy .

My memory of the previous system fades quickly in these situations.

If there is not much between them and both are essentially musical, it can be very tricky.

Lejonklou products vs Linn equivalent tend to make these comparisons quite a bit easier- in my limited experience.
Yes, I like the ease of switching across and agree musical products definitely help. However, it's taught me that sometimes I lose the thread and the poorer option can occasionally seem better if only for a moment. I think this is why my first impression is often more reliable but the problem is I like to be sure.

I prefer the second one - .2MOV again on a very quick A/B

They sound really quite different.

I'd be interested to know what folks make of these three.

It's Kikkin first vs Radikal/Urika first on the mains block. There's also one with a twist - not trying to catch anyone out but hope it will prove insightful.

I've revised my opinion btw :) I now think Kikkin first is better after all so it's been helpful. See what you think:

2. Tinky Winky: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ctzmimje71fad ... y.MOV?dl=0
3. Po: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sf58x5zhq9xzofu/Po.MOV?dl=0

Making a quick listen I prefer the first clip as it sounds more natural. So laa laa for me please! It really shows the kind of "in tune" ness I am listening for.

I'm not sure what to say beck. The first track sounds a bit off.

Now you are really streching my listening skills. So I will put myself in the spotlight by saying: Laa Laa is your new preferred setup(Kikkin first). Tinky Winky is your former preferred setup and Po is just weird!

Well, it was my favourite this morning listening to the first few seconds but now I'm thinking Radikal again. Either my tunedem skills in general are too temperamental or I need to be sat in front of the system to be sure, not using these files.

As you have figured out by now I put a natural relation between notes first. Kikkin first does this in your setup as far as I can hear but many other factors play a role in our musical enjoyment so in the end it is up to you!

Sorry, you are absolutely right. What I can say for sure is that I prefer Laa Laa! Forget the rest if you can. :-)

There should have been a question mark behind Kikkin in my earlier remarks!

I don't understand the question.

I only get engaged when there is a purpose with the comparisons. Some knowledge to be gained. Like which position is better, A or B. Which cable. Which setting. Etc. I prefer to know what I'm comparing, but not which is which.

And it feels even more important when help is really needed. I have so many times run into difficult comparisons, where some detail in a product needs to be decided upon. My first resort is trying to make the comparison blind (there might be a big difference between the two options in expense or work required to go further). If still difficult, I ask for help. With the use of recorded clips, getting help is now much easier and quicker than before.

Yes, the question is somewhat out off line with what we are doing here so I will retract it!

They seem arranged in order from best to worst.

Great song, what is it? The intro was annoying when comparing, though. I had to skip the first 15 seconds every time, which was difficult on the phone. I much prefer to compare with songs that start at once.

Preferred the first one - Laa laa

Did not get on with third one very well at all - po

Second one - tiny winky , not far behind first.

As Fredrik says - not easy comparison as intro was not helping.
