Musically I like X. Practically I like whichever one won't burn your house down (see other thread). ;-)

at first y made a more calm impression to me and I was about to say I like it better but I checked checked x again and realized y is eating up small little details which makes the song flowing better with x so I agree with Thomas

Z isn't too bad but I definitely still prefer X by a decent margin.

Thank you for listening Thomas. These clips are really interesting to me. I will explain later what is going on.

X is best.
Y The bass playing isn't well integrated with the rest of the music.
Z sounds good but this time the bass is lagging behind a tiny bit.

Still you have perhaps the best CD playback in the world and I'm quite jealous ;)

Wow, big words Whatsmynaim. Thank you. :-)

Let us just say that I have transformed a cd player I was about to throw out some years ago to something I really can enjoy.

"Let us just say that I have transformed a cd player I was about to throw out some years ago to something I really can enjoy."

You've done an awesome job! Out of the cd players I've heard in real life and in clips. Your Nad is so far the best.

And yeah. These boxes can be pretty good but are very picky with the setup. Even compared to an LP12.
I've spent weeks on torquing my player, inside and out, and probably months on finding the right settings to change from the 50+ settings available. That's far from plug & play but now most of my CD's are an enjoyable listen :)
-----------------------------------------------
By the way. I've just posted my latest (final?) settings to change for best sound in the
HiFi thread - "Is there a musical bluray-player? Replacing the Oppo BDP-105."

BDP-105 owners, check it out and give it a try!

Edit: Changed some of the text for clarity.

Getting back to the clips X,Y and Z all that has been changed between them is how firmly the ground connection has been “plugged” into the wall outlet.
As my ground connection is seperated from the power cord it is possible for me to experiment with it.
X is my standard and Y and Z looser experiments. The firmer the better seems to be the result in my case and system.

I just want to be moved by what I listen to. It can be Mahler’s fifth symphony or a simple pop song like the one below. That is what has guided my experiments.

Which do you find better, sylomer or cones?

2. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fugjydfny8wzp ... 3.mov?dl=0

If you want to skip the piano intro straight to more action, go to around 1:30 in the video.

IMO Clip 2 is more musical/in-tune by quite a lot.

I prefer to listen to 1. To me 2 seems to be a little sterile and less full of life.

for me 2 flows better and is easier to understand but I think there are recording differences - 1 seems to be more direct/louder

They should be the same and we’re recorded just minutes apart. Maybe I have to redo i, if we can’t reach a conclusion?

I would love to say that 2 is better. I do however sense a split in the sound that would make me stop listening after a while. But the voting is clear.........

I'm on a borrowed phone and don't know how this piece is meant to come across, so make of this what you will...
1 feels like it has better flow, and is more enjoyable musically to my ears.
2 has more of a staccato presentation which doesn't appeal to me.

So, I'm with beck on this one / 1, likely for different reasons, but if you feel it should come across with more snap, then that's ok too / 2.

In room I have a clear preference for no. 1 (the spikes). The Sylomer pucks didn’t bring an improvement under the switch either.

Second one is much easier to understand the little stylistic quotes in the build up to her singing. I can hear Bill Evans, Oscar, even a little stride(Meade Lux Lewis?) right before the guitar and trap set enter. Those subtleties are obscured in the first example, although it is still very listenable.

I’d want the musical insight of #2 if it were my kit. Hth!

I definitely prefer 1. Clip 2 seems to reduce the impact of the hammers on the strings in a way that sounds unnatural to me and the flow of everything (when everything finally comes in) is better to me on Clip 1.
