Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
hi Charlie not sure how serious you are with the service question but New Life although I like it really much sounded always really „flat“ to me.
The fast rhythm always made me leave the dancefloor as I was not able to cope with it ... only if the girl was pretty enough I stayed but at the end of the song almost always she left leaving me alone at the dancefloor pretending to not know me ;)
But I had at least a Two Minute Warning:

I suppose it's not a natural beat to dance too, but I just like the electronicie bits none the less. I'm an appalling dancer so it really makes no difference how easy or hard it is to dance to as the result on my part will be a similarly uncoordinated affair.
Yes, serious. I've already asked for it to be collected.
I no longer have that album. Not sure what happened to it. It wasn't one of their best as I recall but of course I love Everything Counts. Have you seen them live?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
yes I did see them in Munich in 2013 in the Olympia Stadium but that was so far away. We usually have a big DM community with Depeche Mode Parties twice a year and I usually still go ... its like a class reunion.
I had one friend who said: „If I am meeting a new girl and find out she doesn’t like Depeche Mode than it does not really make sense to go ahead - yes or no?“
I really like the small background melodies of Depeche Mode and now know that I can enjoy them again.
My former system went into a direction where I couldn’t enjoy DM anymore and thought I was grown out of the music but now I know it was just eating the small inner relationships of that music.

I saw them in the early 90s before they cleaned up and they were awful, but subsequent gigs have been very good. Stripped is always a highlight for me - just a great tune - the background melody as you say.

I’m a bit late to the party with this one, but totally agree, the CB160 sounds a bit poorly 🤒beck wrote: ↑2020-04-06 14:13No doubt about that!Charlie1 wrote: ↑2020-04-06 13:11 I think the CB160 might need a service. The switch from 250 got the timing back but music has not been as involving as it should.

I love the look of those chrome numbers. I prefer the second clip. How much do Naim charge for a recap these days?Charlie1 wrote: ↑2020-04-06 13:11 I think the CB160 might need a service. The switch from 250 got the timing back but music has not been as involving as it should.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Not sure about Naim, but I think Class A charge about £280 for the 160 which is a lot of work I'm told. 250s are expensive too but fortunately, I covered my cost when selling that - not always the case. Smaller amps and preamps are about £150.El Mero Mero wrote: ↑2020-04-07 08:41 I love the look of those chrome numbers. I prefer the second clip. How much do Naim charge for a recap these days?

If I may suggest ...
Check Naim as well ... You will get certificate = keep the value of 160 ...

I think that makes sense for any 'special' items. However, I was told there was already a bit of a waiting list and that was before Naim shutdown due to Covid.

Apologies for not catching up here.Defender wrote: ↑2020-04-05 15:55 big thanks to Beck in advance

I applied some of his tricks to the LP12 and the Lingo2 and can’t stop putting on new records ;)

Great song! I think the best version is the live one on the album '101' (second track). I remember playing it for a friend late one night when I had recently completed the first version of Tundra stereo and decided that I was done; this was version 1.0 and ready for release. We were spellbound by the atmosphere.
I had some other popular (at least on this forum) amps at hand and when the song was ending my friend asked me to make a change for the best of them. "Let's hear what you're up against!" The noise of the crowd was what hit us first - it felt flat and slightly painful on the ears. And the melody that followed was stiff and electronic. We soon changed back to the Tundra and didn't stop listening until early in the morning.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
And your pre/amplifiers and phonostages Lejonklou deserve all the credit we can give them and hopefully many more will discover them and make your business grow.
Just listening to your Sagatun in Defenders system says a great deal about the musical qualities that your amps display.
My personel quest has been one of finding my way back to the roots of what makes a good system. Making things as simple as possible has given me insight I would never have gained by just buying the next great thing on the market.
Working with setup has showed me that much effort has to go into this area before we truthfully (if ever) can judge what the equipment we use can or cannot do.

In response to ThomasOK's request, here's some clips playing around with cable arrangement:

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Yes, there is a difference. The top clip is playing the music like it has a “straitjacket” on. The bottom clip has a free flowing character.

I really like your rubber + carbon fibre brush, beck!
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Wasn't swept away by the brush; thought there were some material advantages with the felt... but a bit firm - maybe a softer felt?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Another spot on description from beck. Second clip is the T-Kable routed free and clear of all contact other than at each end. First clip has a power cable that's been laid across the top of the cable in a loose loop. This moved the T-Kable enough that it also came into contact with a Black RCA exiting the Exotik, so there are 3 additional points of contact with other cables. There's no question that the cable routing influenced the outcome of the gain comparison but it doesn't change the result.
I have found another potential point of improvement that is cable and support related. More clips to come soon.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I like it too but it did not get me to the exact point where I wanted to be. I miss a slight amount of body in the sound and still hope I can find it with my cd player.
I too feel that the “felt” has potential. It gives me more body and is closer to the sound from my analog setup.
I will experiment further.
Thank you both for listening.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
my vote also goes to the carbon brush I like it better than the felt -however this seems not perfect as some of what is not perfect is better with the felt clip
