@ Spannko
With different diameters of speaker cables, we have experimented a lot at the time. For example, the shielding of antenna cable, insulated (shrink tubing), twisted and untwisted, multiple strands as well. Spannkos "pattern" also with stiff 0.1qmm, likewise twisted and not or also with different standard installation cables.

In the end we kept coming back to the Naim NACA4, later the NACA5, which gave the best musicality. And we also came to a length of 5m as the best sounding. There were not only Naim amplifiers at the start, also tubes and other amps. Later also Mogami and Fulton Gold (was sinfully expensive), which a dealer brought us from the USA.

Also a few years ago still other gestetet, such as Ölflex and Klotz, but which flew out again.

All in all, parallel running wires have proven themselves again and again, as well as a diameter of 4qmm.

However, I must confess, I had a whole roll (100m) NACA5 at my disposal, which left me my dealer when he closed his store. This made it possible to experiment with many lengths.

Very interesting Hermann, thank you.

You seem to be referring to loudspeaker cables, have you experimented with power cables?

I mean already have some experience to power cable. Many well-known brands through, usually self-soldered. Even here I confess, at the end of the day, since a Naimkette is present to the Hiline grabbed.

Some nonames were faster, others just a nogo. Maybe I was a little nerdy, because currently the topic is closed for me, if I except Fredrik's Linn cable for the Radikal. This has been delivered by Marco yesterday and will be tested next week. Before that, however, I "burn" it in by running other devices with it.

Even the normal Naim power cord plays very well with other equipment (tubes for example). I had tried everything that fit, monitor cable, PC cable and what is flying around in the household.

OK, the Naims have cost on average 300-350 euros used, but the first tested was already a huge success. Now there are five.

I mean, always "hear" the delivered extensively first. When the picture is complete, swap a cable and listen over a longer period. Then back to the previous one. But I don't have to explain that to anyone here.

Great to hear that Marco is sending you a power cord, Hermann!

I advise against this. I recommend that the power cord is put to use at once in its intended position and then allowed to be "burned in" there.

This may be a relic from the old days when we experimented a lot. I'll leave it and follow your advice Fredrik. :-)

It's not that it doesn't work, but rather that some machines seem to permanently change the sound of the cables that are connected to them.

Although this appears to be rare, I still think it's best avoided. Cables will run in anyway.

However, this is an argument we didn't think about before. That option exists, without a doubt. Especially for the reason that musical changes are now quite minimal.

Could be a new project...

I think so. Not help by the K9 volume being quite a bit lower. Also, I prefer to hear the exact same piece of music.

I’ve added a new recording to the 4mm Vs 6mm shootout. It’s the piano recording of the twisty turny 5mm^2 cable after 3 days burn-in. It’s the one without any video effects.

Honestly Spannko, I think you should patent you cable. I think you have hit something very special. It is both musical and sounds very “right” to me.................

Thanks beck. I must admit, it’s sounding better than I thought it would - it just goes to show, we really shouldn’t make snap decisions and make sure we give any changes plenty of time to settle in, as Hermann suggested above.

The “sound” is very pleasant, but I’m reserving judgment on the musicality until I go back to the 4mm cable. Remember, you’ll hear it here first! 😁

Netgear Vs DIY Power Supply

Post by Spannko »

Here’s the very latest version of the DIY power supply with the wavy 5mm power cable. I’ll repeat the comparison later using the 4mm power cable.

Enjoy 🙂

A little more intimacy with the Netgear; a little more authority with the DIY ps. Enjoyed both 😊

They both sound quite good but the DIY sounds a bit delicate to me. I prefer the Netgear as it has better movement and more power. I get into the piece more with it.

Thank you everybody for your input. Unfortunately, I can only agree with you all 😟

The recordings were made with the fancy twisty turny 5mm cable,

Just for a bit of festive fun, here’s the same comparison but with a bog standard 4mm t&e cable.

Netgear again for me.

I liked your DIY PSU earlier on in the year. Not sure what's changed. Certainly the music wasn't so spartan but has something changed?

So, I've got all three decks now.

No surprise that the '91-spec Lingo / Ekos deck is the most tuneful, following by the Valhalla / Ittok.

I don't think direct comparisons of the LP12s alone is really gonna be of much interest. The problem is that the decks really don't sound very well balanced when mixed with the wrong kit. For example, the Lingo/Ekos deck is too bright with CB amps and the Valhalla/Ittok deck so too soggy and muffled with Kairn/Klout. The Geddon/Ekos SE deck also needs the Naim amps but still sounds a bit downbeat so will probably benefit from the SBLs - it's a bit of a Frankenstein's monster so not quite sure what it needs. Who said, "a bullet?!"

How about clips of these two in the office?

1. Lingo/Ekos/Adikt > Kairn/Klout > Briks
2. Valhalla/Ittok/K9 > 32.5/160 > Briks

Or are there any specific requests?
