An extra note:

For people listening in on my many clips during the years it can seem like I just tumble around making my system sound different from one clip to the next.

That is not the case.

I started with my cd player not liking much of what I heard from my cd’s. Along the way fewer and fewer of them annoyed me.
Now I am down to the last one. Bob Dylans Modern Times has been a hard nut to crack but my relentless search for better playback has paid off.
Even this cd now makes sense musically to me.
I'm for now.

& next tweak is ...

After going back and forth a couple times I found that with "before" I struggle a bit to remain focused and felt like I needed to do something like turn the volume up in order to get the music to come alive. I had no such issues with "now." Quite enjoyable.

Because of the nature of my setup and system I do not necessarily expect it to make a difference in other systems.

I’ll admit I think this one was difficult. Read all the comments about the piano so so got a bit hung up listening to that which prevented me from hearing anything.

On listening again, fast forwarding the intro,I think the bass/drum combo is better flowing in the later clip.

Exactly OscarH! That is also what convinced me that the second setup is better regardless of the sonic differences.

Naim use locking DIN connectors but recommend that the lock be left loose and the plug not be pushed fully home so that the plug is free to move slightly. They used this idea in the design of their “floating” UK power plugs too.

Has anyone heard the £100 Powerline? I think it uses the same cable and iec plug as Linn, but with a simplified version of their floating power plug design.

Both are really enjoyable. I could not hear a difference in tunefulness, but (2) sounds a littler bassier to me. I'm not sure which I prefer.

My goal has been to make every single cd in my collection enjoyable through my cd player and system. This DDD recorded cd has been a pain in my ears for as long as I can remember. Have I overcome the problem with my latest setup change?

If yes, my job is completed! :-)

Gosh. What track is that? I'm afraid I find it rather difficult to listen to in this clip

Yes, it is the worst cd I have! :-)

In my room I can enjoy the music now despite the sound. That was not the case just one month ago. It is the opening track on Modern Times by Bob Dylan.

An important thing to know about cd’s that I just discovered recently is that some are coded as MP3!

So, if you own cd’s that sounds a little clouded they can well be coded as MP3.

I usually hold myself back with my opinion here as I have been too often wrong. For your question before I like new (2) more (...8.mov) than new (1 ) (...2.mov)
with respect to your last test - if this is the worst you can make your playback sound I am impressed because also this song flows very well

but take my statements know from whom they come from

Nobody can be wrong about what they prefer! :-)

We simply state what we prefer and then when many answers have come in we form a picture of the situation. Every opinion counts.

For what it's worth, I thought the track moved along quite nicely... but surely it's a DDDD recording: Dylan Digitalx3 ;)

..........and my system is not the forgiving kind. Some might call it harsh when playing this Dylan recording!

Interesting that this particular recording is causing you so much hassle, beck.

I’ve always found the band to have a great, natural drive on this very song.

To my ears the clips doesn’t quite do it justice, but glad it works in the room now.

I also realize I’ve overplayed my hand earlier, I actually don’t have Modern Times on vinyl, only cd/rip. I’ll make sure to get it before the pandemic is over. Always liked it.

It can easily be my cd player that just does not like Dylan! :-)

More seriously it can be my weird setup that just does not hit the target 100 percent or maybe the cd itself.........

There is something in my Now (1) clip I like more than Now (2). I will investigate further.......

Thank you for listening guys and dolls! :-)

I will remove the clips to make room for others.

About Dylan there seem to be several versions of Modern Times on the market (different digital masters). I guess mine is the first one that even Dylan did not like! :-)

Thank you to Charlie1 for making me aware of this and to FairPlayMotty for the link below!

I first bought Modern Times on cd and was very disappointed. Then I bought in on US vinyl and it was a totally different, very enjoyable record.
