Voltage Regulator Comparison

Post by Spannko »

I’ve recorded two voltage regulators for your entertainment (I’m scraping the barrel, I know, but at least it’ll help pass a bit of time)

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/72zt2v93e3e ... 1NZWa?dl=0

Everything is identical, except for the regulators, and they were both soldered in 45 mins before the recordings.

You are onto something here Spannko. I find the second much better, more secure than the first.......

I find the sound more dense on the second clip.....

I like them both. First one seems more mellow and I thought maybe the vocal resonating more with me, but ultimately I think clip two makes more sense of things.

going further from the last

after applying the „Beck method“ to the LP12
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2h2bp5sdh58il ... 6.mov?dl=0

might not completely level with loudness as I didnt remember so the Beck method - clip is either level or not as loud to make sure it has no advantage

thank you very much - I took care of some cables mainly Lingo 2 to LP12 motor as well as the arm cable to the Linto and the RCA cable from Linto to Sagatun. This made things clear up. I mainly used felt pices to suspend the cables especiall if they were going over edges.

Yeah, I like what you've done. What did you actually do BTW?

Two of my favourite 80s tracks from fav 80s albums today Defender :)

hi Charlie this is what I did
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2kh7yvyorploa ... 2.jpg?dl=0

I lifted cables off the surface with felt pads on areas where they touch edges like the lack table and also lifted the motor cable off from the wooden floor (in this case not with a felt pad as I didnt had enough).

The Depeche Mode recording was done at very high volume as you might realize through the bone fire noise ;) but still sounded very clear.

Great picture. I think what you have done with the felt pad is important letting it sit freely not sticking it onto the table.

yes and I even think if it is a more soft felt on both sides and non sticky layer on one side it might be even better.

Thanks - really useful pic. I did try this before with beck's help but will try again in the other system.

If I am touching my cables at normal room volume (about 3stops below green on Sagatun) I can already feel them vibrating. In some cases it might be better they lay directly on the ground for better „grounding“ of those vibrations but in the case of edges like lack table and I also have edges on the black slade I rather have them suspended to not have a point pressure+vibrations ... at least thats I concluded out of Beck‘s evaluations.
A problem I have is the Linto has the arm cable input on the right side and the output to the Sagatun is on the left side (looking from the front) so my cables cross and inevitably touch and I have no real solution to it.

... again something I like with Entity and Slipsik they dont prefer one side (small things make a difference).

The solution might be to mirror your setup down the middle putting everything on the other side of the tv with the turntable to the right 😓😓😓.

I think the CB160 might need a service. The switch from 250 got the timing back but music has not been as involving as it should.

A good solution but then you will not get the chance to give your living room a spring cleaning! :-)
