It's all about musical understanding!
Re: Balanced or standard interconnects?
Ah, one could use two unbalanced cables to transmit a balanced signal. Didn't think of that, probably because it's so bad for interference. When hot and cold are not running next to each other, some interference will be amplified instead of cancelled in the balanced receiver.Music Lover wrote:Correct, but please notice the (s) in cable(s) ;)lejonklou wrote:No. I don't see how that's possible, as there is one conductor too few.Music Lover wrote:Did you ever perform the opposite test? It sounds like a very bad idea.
Re: Balanced or standard interconnects?
A bit surprising, I prefer balanced from Oppo105 to KK. I think Oppo deliberately made the XLR output stage better. I suppose you have tried? And I prefer single-ended from DS to KK.Music Lover wrote:...
I use the best balanced pair from my DS to KK, and the best single-ended pair feeding the signal to Mono2s.
The second best single-ended pair is used between my Oppo105 to KK.

hi stefan - would you qualify that statement a bit more, please. Thanksstefan wrote:I think Oppo deliberately made the XLR output stage better.
Or, if anyone else knows more about this...

http://www.laaudiofile.com/oppo_bdp105.htmlEach unbalanced (RCA) channel is driven with a LM4562 opamp. The balanced (XLR) outputs use a fully differential audio amplifier LME49724 for maximum performance.

Re: Balanced or standard interconnects?
No, never tried the balanced on 105. But that would be an interesting test to perform.
Regarding the OP-amps, not sure we should read too much into the text. Likely marketing language me thinks. The only way is to test imho.
