Hi all

Since i got my sneaky ,and connected it straight to my solos a noise problem have become aparent.

Its not a hum its a hizz sound from the speakers, the noise reminds me of somthing that is turned up way to loud, like a guitar amplifire.

Its unaccteble because from 3.5 meters distance i can here it even at moderat listning level.
I have experince this kind of noise before in my system, but this time its much louder, people including my girlfrien thinks it sounds horrible becaue of all the hizzz noise.

The sneaky other then that sounds amazing so i dont thing its broken.
im using the digital preamplifire inside the sneaky , because its connected straight to my solos but could it be here the problem lies ?

I will contact my daler tomorrow and ask about it .

Hmmm.

If possible, compare it to another Sneaky DS. If the volume control is indeed digital, the hiss from the D/A converter and output stage will always be at full volume, regardless of the volume you listen to. This could present a problem IF the circuit is a bit noisy AND you are listening at a low level.

It might also be a completely different problem, as I don't recognise your description of the hiss. Does it sound electrical (hizzzzzz) or like ordinary noise (hissssss)?

HI

The noise is the same type as with all linn hifisystems when you put you ear very close to the tweeter ,its a white noise sssshssshsshsssssssssshsssssssh ssssssss :) but its much much more loud and audioble even from 10 meters distance, low level listning is no good enymore .

Ok, I get it. :)

In that case, either your Sneaky DS is faulty or the volume control feature is crap.

Compare it with another Sneaky DS!

An easy test is to connect a pre-amp (still have the Unidisc SC?) to the Sneaky FIXED output. Still an issue?

some more....
Same noise regardless if you play music or not?
Is the noise constant or changing with the volume?
Are you sure you disabled the power amp?
Same noise if you run the speaker with the Solo removed using the Sneaky power amps?

Unidisk is sold so cant test it that way.

Yes the amplifire is set to be off in the linn config.

The noise is constant and don“t change level when i turn the volume up.
As soon as the solos turns on the noise is there , and stays there.

The noise is very regonizeble becaue it is the same kind as wihh most systems but this time 3 times louder.

Il call my dealer tomorrow.

Hi guys linn answerd my questian

Hi

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I am inverstigating potential sollutions to this.

It is due to the full scale levels from the DAC, it is no worse than the Unidisk SC or other products, but the Unidisk SC has an analog volume control attenuating it's output and therefore the noise floor of the DAC.

The simplest sollution for yourself would be to passive attenuate to the Line level outputs. The effect on "user experience" is you would need to turn up the volume 1 step for each dB of attenuation applied to get the same SPL from the speakers.

If you tend to listen at volume 80-100, this may not be an appropriate sollution but I suspect you would not be experiencing this problem if you listened at higher volumes or you would have noticed the noise through the Unidisk SC.

Attenuators can be purchased by companies such as canford.co.uk or your retailler could maybe make one in the RCA plugs at the power amplifier end of your cables, I would suggest 2.4k ohms to 470ohms would provide -15dB attenuation.

Ok, then I was right in my assumption that it was due to the volume control and noise from the DAC.

I am not impressed by the answer you received, as lowering the volume with an attenuator is not good for sound quality. Impedance matching is really important in amplifier design.

What you need is a proper preamp, I'm afraid that's the only thing that will take care of your problems.

Exactly my thourgt.

What i dont understand is why dos the slimdevices products not produce eny noise when used directly into poweramps using the digital volume kontrol like with the ds ?.
