Alan Ainslie, General Manager, Melco Audiophile NAS project – Buffalo Technology
joins HiddenSystems on Friday 24th July from 19.00 to 21.00 for a music played via NAS. With much debate of “its’ all one and zero’s “we thought a mid summer music session with the ability to meet the manufacturer would be beneficial to those that are thinking of replacing their old NAS or opting for subscription based music – Tidal/Qobuz.
On demonstration will be their flagship SSD model – N1Z and the HDD model – N1A played into our Linn Klimax Exakt system and other exciting systems :-)
We will be open all day to hear but the main event starts at 19.00 invitation only – please contact to secure your place. If the night is over subscribed there will be a chance to here on the following day, Saturday 25th.

Re: Melco NAS Night - Meet the manufacturer
Looking forward to the reviews.
If the Melco NASs sigificantly outperform existing off the shelf NAS drives, and the LS NAS's can no longer be built due to obsolete parts, then they may have the market to themselves.
I would like to know:
1 How much more musical each of these products are, compared to existing off the shelf NAS drives.
2 How does one transfer a digital library over from another NAS drive and will this cause loss of quality.
3 How is the ripping done - I quite like built in cd drives for the ripping as with my Zone ripper
4 Will the product be guaranteed for 5 years.

This is best performed by using the backup feature in your existing NAS (typically by using rsync protocol, or if is not supported in the destination unit - though that is highly unlikely as rsync is ubiquitous in Linux based devices - then likely by instead opting to use the FTP protocol) and either way, no, it would not cause any loss of quality. With any NAS, it is key to back it up to cover yourself against a complete unit failure, so if not already doing that, it would be best to very soon familiarise yourself with the backup process from your own NAS (by backing it up to a USB disk, for example). If using a Qnap, this is found in the 'Backup Station' section of the NAS web interface (other vendors' products will all have similar backup utilities).
