I agree - impressive how torques can change the overall quality

Have you tried 0.85Nm? It should be relatively close to the .8Nm+3 notches Fredrik and I prefer.

Here’s a couple of sets of recordings of the 3k array torqued to 0.55Nm or 0.80Nm in no particular order.

Which do you prefer. Set A or set B?

ThomasOK. I can’t remember tbh, so I’ll have a listen tomorrow.

EDIT: Changed the higher torque to read 0.80Nm (from 0.90Nm).

Hmm, this will be interesting: I think I preferred the A clips in all cases.
I worked too long last night, didn't have time to make any clips. Hopefully tomorrow.

Hahahahahaha ..... Ice breaker ..... Who will make mistake :-))))))))

+1.

All A Clips for me, as well, more Musical ... B Clips more HiFi, both groups are OK, but each group with own characteristics, for me, my opinion, with my equipment, what is in the room is ...

Final decision is your Spannko, your personal preferences in this case, this is only my opinion, if I can help some how ... you know what I mean ... ;-)

I like both (this is probably the sentence you dont want to hear at all ;))
so here it comes
I liked the texture of the applause in the first clip the most with A which would indicate A is better
but later felt except from this I like the B clips better so if I need to decide I am in for B

edit:
hearing them again I think I would love to merge some of the qualities of both

A for me.

B sounds as if the torque is too high.

Fredrik I would like to learn - what kind of sound do you connect with a too high torque?

I'm just guessing on these clips, but when you raise the torque, it will sound harder.

Did you mean "0.90Nm" or was that a typo since it's labelled as 0.80Nm on Dropbox

Fwiw, I'm for A too.

Ah, well spotted!

I originally set to 0.90Nm, then dropped to 0.80Nm, so you’re right, it should read 0.80Nm.

I’m going to try 0.85Nm later too, as TOK suggested,

OK, it looks like A is the clear favourite, which is 0.80Nm.

This doesn’t mean that 0.80Nm is the best setting for the 3K array, for 2 reasons:

1. 0.85Nm might be better as Thomas & Fredrik suggests

2. My torque driver has a 6% tolerance, so my 0.80Nm setting could be anywhere between 0.75Nm and 0.85Nm.

I believe Thomas & Fredrik’s are also made to a 6% tolerance (the DIN EN ISO standard) but they are also calibrated and matched to each other to facilitate the sharing of experiment results?

I’m reliably informed that this is the best torque driver one can buy https://www.sheldonbrown.com/tork-grip.html. I have both left and right handed versions, to cope with those tricky tight spaces.

Oh, gotta love the "Real Life calibration" chart :)

It can also be translated to replace manometer readings for tyre pressure, where "hard enough" is usually what to aim for when reinflating after fixing a puncture at the roadside.

sheldonbrown.com IS an incredibly useful website for all things relating to wrenching on bikes.

That may be OK if you're a Monkee*, but my speakers have Torx head screws on them, not "Tork", so that wouldn't work :p

Interesting! Then my "B sounds too tight" was wrong.

Like the Sarah Siskind track.

That was a good win for clip A.

Haven't done second clip yet.
