Until you've heard a Harting switch I'd not jump to conclusions. I've tried numerous switches and a few routers. Not one of them had the wow factor of a Harting switch.
What about two clips, one with and the other without the Harting?
Thanks

As the comparisons have developed, I’ve increasingly become unsure that substituting the Netgear for a Melco is taking the sound in the right direction, and in my experience, this is usually an indication that I’ve been seduced by a better sound, without noticing that the musicality has taken a slight step backwards. When this happens, I find the best solution is to go back to the beginning and start again. I’ve done this and I now think that 1. with its less impressive sound could be slightly more musical than 2. It’s What do you guys think?

Then a SBooster auxiliary power supply was connected instead of the Melco power supply. It changed the sound. My emotional and physical reactions were gone. Back again and they were back.
I am wondering why with the clips the SBooster was preferred.
Any ideas?

Which ports of the Melco did you use for the comparison, 100M or 1000M?
Did you compare 100M to 1000M?
Thanks
Matt
I had compared 100M with 1000M in the store. The variant with 1000M, i.e. from the router into the 1000M port and from another 1000M port to the streamer, was clearly the better one for me. Only this variant triggered this spectacular effect in me. Of course I used this variant first in my own system. But the great emotional and physical reactions were unfortunately missing and I was very disappointed.
I therefore decided to use only the variant recommended by Melco in the comparison, and that is:
Router > 1000M > 100M > Streamer.

Well, then you would be on Beck's side. He was the first to clearly state that the Netgear is the best of all for him.

On your prompt I did the same. I still prefer the presentation of 2, but also considering Matt's posted Fredrik quote that a switch can make things smoother... Wondering if the S100 has a signature that suits the song and I/we've been seduced by Melco. (no criticism of the clips or choice of song; just a poss limitation of online comparison vs extended in-home audition)

If you want, we can do a 2nd comparison. After all, there is another recording of it.
By the way, I deliberately chose these two songs, because in the forum the piece of Lightfoot and Johnson were generally, recommended as particularly recommendable for the TunDem. As always, I wanted to make my work easy and be sure. :)

This is what I’m wondering too. I’m pretty sure no one would buy their HiFi based on one 30 second phone recording! This is not a criticism of the approach - listening to recordings can be very helpful, but we also have to be cautious and it’s not uncommon for someone to re-evaluate their decision at a later date. Recently, I’ve been presenting a couple of different recordings in my clips so as to try and provide a broader perspective of the item under test. Three different recordings would likely be even better.

Understandable :) I wouldn't suggest a 2nd comparison as a priority, but might be worth including (if possible) between 108T and the best S100 configuration, once that's found via your clips. Could serve as a useful verification.

Good idea, we can do that.
I'm afraid we'll end up hating the songs, after all, there's still all the Netgear variants to come, hooray! with Johnson! :)
A small remark on the side. I am doing this for you, not for me. My decision whether to have the Melco or not is not dependent on what the winner of the comparison will be and was made long before the clips were recorded.

Thank you,
am I right that in this case everything went back to the store?

Yes, that's right.

So your clips were very helpful, I would have done the same.

Consider though. The price for full equipment of the Melco is a lot of money for me. For me, it means choosing carefully according to cost/benefit. This can look very different for you.

It is exactly the same for me as well.

If the extreme experiences with the Melco in the shop had often been repeated at home, I would not have hesitated to buy the Melco. But presumably no system can afford that anymore, so I remain modest and live with what I have.... Until the next temptation and hope...:):)
