For me, the music literally sounds a bit sat upon (over damped/compressed) with the LP12 in situ, and It breaths better without it, like taking a sigh of relief - probably how you'd feel if you'd had an LP12 sat on you for the past 5 years :D

Yes it is quite interesting though I enjoy the “sat on” sound and would not choose otherwise…….

This might open up a new can of worms……. Oh, no, more experiments. :-)

I agree with Charlie1 that the music breathes better without the LP12 on top.

It sounds the way it looks.

I'm glad you tried it and the outcome is what I expected. it sounds the best with nothing on top of it.
As of now the music comes off as overly damped with an LP12 on its back ..On the other hand it probably brings order to more chaotic or faster paced songs so I can understand why you like it.

Where to go from here? I bet you'll figure it out :)

I think this might be the first time I've thought a system sounded more musical without an LP12, but...

Maybe a different topper, but I much more enjoyed without than with in this case. I'm with the rest here. Nice piece of music.

A small preliminary investigation show me that a small amount of damping on top of the CD player will do the trick or I might even end up with nothing when the setup has settled. :-)

Listening to Rachmaninov solo piano and loving it.

We obviously don't have the same player but you can try this. It's quickly done and can work better than any kind of damping item put on top. It did for me at least.
Torquing of the screws that's holding the cover/top lid in place:
First loosen all the screws and then turn each screw till they stop. Don't apply any more force after that. Now listen to the result. If you make adjustments make sure each screw is being tightened the same. Good luck!

The setup only had to settle. No damping needed. Thank you for pushing me in the right direction.

My thoughts too. Unfortunately, it’s something which happens to nearly everyone at one point or another: we take our eye off the music ball for just a second, and suddenly we find ourselves seduced by the sound which drags us into a downward spiral until at some point we realise music isn’t fun anymore. I’m glad you’ve found your way back onto the right track beck!

As you've constantly improved your setup I'm now wondering if those speakers are a bit too much for the room. Just putting it out there as I'm really not sure. And it's nothing to do with the bass. Or could be the volume is too high and I'm just hearing too much of the room - I think you get a truer impression of the room if you focus on getting a clean recording and then let the end device provide the volume and some of the dynamics.

No problem in pointing out that I play music loud. :-) I do and I like it that way. The most important thing is that one can hear the changes.

On a quick listen I preferred the second clip…………. and now on a longer listen I prefer the first clip. :-)
