Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Great to hear a new system tokenbrit! :-)
Not easy as there is not much for me to hang my hat on. The emotion in her voice? The singing violin? The natural sound from a drum kit? The interplay between the musicians? ;-)
I go with defender and charlie1. B

First one for me ...Tendaberry wrote: ↑2020-03-17 12:44 The first one is with standard power supplies for router (Fritzbox 7590) and Qnap. The second clip is with an external linear regulated power supply for the router. And in the third clip the LPS acts as power supply for both router and Qnap.
Since everyone preferred the original power supplies, how about between these two then?

Hi Tokenbrit, I'm for B, slightly, but for B and TV also ... ;-)tokenbrit wrote: ↑2020-03-17 21:56 Time for a little experiment: one small change; is it audible in this setup? If so, which is Better?

This is my first go at recording so here's hoping that me & the phone are up to the task, and the clips are ok... can redo if not.
Bonus track just for a little fun :)

Okay, as we now are trained in having several comparisons going at the same time I will continue my hunt. The question is what part of the carbon fibers I shall use as support point for the cd power cable.
Using the tip of the carbon brush fibers (tip):

Using the side of the carbon brush fibers(side):

Bonus question: who is singing? (no Charlie1, you must not answer this question!)

My vote goes to using the tip. Could you show us a picture of what it looks like, please?beck wrote: ↑2020-03-18 11:31 Okay, as we now are trained in having several comparisons going at the same time I will continue my hunt. I prefer the first clip too beck (tip)

Thanks for the feedback. If you don't mind, I'll hold the reveal for a little while as I'd like to do another round of clips - just need to wait for a suitable, quiet time - and want a few more songs in the bank for the next change(s) anyway.

Don’t know the singer. I thought at first it might be an early Macca recording, but I don’t think so.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Thank you for the answers guys!
I do like the “side” clip but can follow your answers. I will experiment further.
The singer is: Former 10cc member - Eric Stewart! on this Alan Parsons album “On Air” from 1996.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
even though I think its crazy to hear a difference its tip for me too I might come up with something strange too but need to do recordings first
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
It is not crazy. :-)
The difference in the room is very clear as in the clips.
“Side” is a bit like the “high end” system I have never wished for and “tip” is more down to earth..........and the differences have been repeated several times by me with the same result.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
did you expected the tip beeing the better? I am not speaking about expectation bias - because than we would not be able to hear a difference ... but I would like to know.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
No expectations whatsoever. I just tried my luck and found the brush being better than the rubber I used before.
With my weird system everything makes a difference.....

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I think you are diving into quantum physics ;) ... I am serious. Its another kind of expectation bias without being biased. Just looking if there is a difference presents you a difference.
here is what I have tried
Option 1:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/p39ik7137hi2d ... 9.mov?dl=0
Option 2

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I prefer option 1. Opt 2 breaks down the band and upsets the overall timing for me.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
o.k. thank you
will try another thing as I think there might be a thinking error I made

Option 1 stays the same

Option 2 has changed

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
My advice: do not mess with your option 1 setup as it is very convincing! :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Like beck I still prefer 1, although they may have been closer that time. Sounding really good btw.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I prefer option 1 as well.
BTW, expectation bias doesn’t apply to HiFi 😮😁

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I was trying to optimize my loudspeaker settings as I realized my loudspeakers are positioned at a distance to the wall which is close to some interesting Vortex Math numbers. Vortex Math is also somehow related to Solfeggio Frequencies.
But it didnt gave me the outcome as expected.
The Option 1 is at 398mm (back side of the loudspeaker)from the back wall
the Option 2 at 396mm - a Vortex Math number but didnt work out.
Than I thought - well its not the back side its maybe the front side which is more important.
Option 2 is at 774mm from the back wall (front side of the loudspeaker) makes it 400mm from the back wall
... but also didnt worked out
