For all source units (Streamers, CD players, etc) that use the Philips RC5 standard. Many European and American brands do and nearly all the British ones.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Ah yes, didn’t think of streamers. Assumed it could control a CD player, but few owners of Lejonklou amps on this forum appear to use one.
Sorry about the off-topic question.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
It’s the master command, Kaos press “skip” and I change track on the record :P
Or you can tweak your Hakai and use them ;)
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Not trying to change the way I listen I am still an A man.
It follows the “rules” I like to judge the sound on. Together and “natural” to me.
B to me sounds impressive but slightly seperated and unnatural.
A tough call. :-)

Clip A for me - especially because being able to follow his voice when he starts and making sense of what he is doing
there was more details in the background in Clip B - I think I heard some kind of a miau - miau 😻 but I am giving up this detail for more musical understanding
In case a clip is more musical I think I hear more change of speed/tempo during the play where in a not so musical clip it is more presented without speed changes

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Two clips as an attempted answer to donuks question. Using my less than perfect cd player and system :-) you should be able to hear one of the clips being better at bringing it all together and the other with a slightly more “split” presentation (vision).
Links removed.
Post edit: I realise by listening again to the clips that the difference here is too small with this set to be heard. Well, I will try again if I find a better example.
I can still recommend maffe’s “Six Blade Knife” A versus B clips to hear what I am talking about.

Old ground but perhaps still of interest...

Always difficult when you have to move the deck between clips and you'll have to forgive the hoover in the background during the second clip.
Bear in mind my LP12 uses standard feet, not tramp feet.
Hopefully, Oscar won't have heard this track a million times :D

Standard for me please! :-)

I think if one listens to my clips above in a non active way it will reveal one clip with a more natural flow.Charlie1 wrote: ↑2020-02-27 10:17I think that's a good example.beck wrote: ↑ Post edit: I realise by listening again to the clips that the difference here is too small with this set to be heard. The second clip is clearly much better beck ;) ... just kiddin'!

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Hahaha, I'd never heard this track before. It DID make it easier for me to (practice to) listen for tune (I think) so I do appreciate the consideration ;)
I now feel the pressure to dig out something decidedly obscure for my next set of clips (which will probably be in the hakai playground).
I preferred the standard lack.
Edit: can see that I agree with beck. I wrote my post without reading his.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
That is not necessarily a good sign :-). My hit rate i not that good. Though with these clips I feel good about our choice of the standard lack.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Very early in my career (I like to think I'm still in the early stages of my career but that's another matter) I found myself in the bar at the Hilton in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Sipping my rum I asked the barman, out of interest, whether there was anything he'd consider mixing it with.
He paused and stared at me: "don't tamper with perfection".
I suppose it would take a Swede to drum up an anecdote about Caribbean rum in a discussion about an Ikea Lack table :)
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I did check it was still level. Perhaps a tiny advantage to the standard Lack but only tiny.
I will recompare when I swap back. Perhaps the process of moving the deck then requires a while for the suspension to settle. I was only moving the deck to the side though (onto the Isoblue) and back again, so didn't remove the outer platter.
The deck was spun up from standstill just before recording each clip so it hadn't been playing for 20mins or anything with the Standard table and just a few seconds with the cut out one.

The swap back:

Standard: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w68f9kbr5e6gi ... D.MOV?dl=0
Perhaps the cut out Lack was never better then. I did my first one 30 years ago cos the dealer said it was better, and that was the end of it.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
The standard one sounds more like I remember the song. The somewhat awkward rhythm after the initial piano burst sounds more natural and less stilted there. It could be, that the slightly fuller sound of the standard matches the Kans better.Charlie1 wrote: ↑2020-02-27 11:45 The swap back:

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I couldn't resist checking if the Valhalla deck behaves the same as the Radikal deck.
Stone cold system and yes I'm still playing Dirt Brown Cowboy in the office - not been working up there much tbh - and I like to get my money's worth! It is a good album too.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Thanks. Yes, this is just the Nait so it can be very 'thin' sounding with Kans.Tendaberry wrote: ↑2020-02-27 12:03 The standard one sounds more like I remember the song. Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Still prefer the standard though I can hear what the appeal of the modified is. The standard sounds more natural.

Tx, glad I posted as nearly didn't bother and I could have easily gone astray on this one.

I think all who responded thought the first clip was better, the differences is always bigger in the room. My girlfriend thought the second clip was unlistenable when she heard the differences in the room.kallesprätt wrote: ↑2020-02-26 12:21 Which one do you prefer?

I prefer clip 3 in the new set.
Looks like your system is neatly fitted into the fireplace.
