Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Not on topic but to me Linn Akudorik and Akubarik are fantastic speakers in passive setups.
Sadly they do not in passive form fit into Linn’s business plan. They sound too good! :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
The first one flows better for me.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Clip 1. To me it’s more direct, easier to follow the bass, the trumpet and the inimitable sound of his female backup singers.
Not sure what it is about those backup arrangements... he must have used many different singers through the years but the sound is so easily recognizable.
Might have walked through a door marked ‘trap’ here...
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Hi Thomas thank you for giving those insides. Actually I was somehow getting frustrated asking myself if I really know what TuneDem means ... but I am 100% sure I know.ThomasOK wrote: ↑2020-02-25 20:23
Clip 1 was the system as just described, Clip 2 was the same exact active part of the system but with the power cable removed from the CD12! Yes, it does make that much difference. No, I didn't expect it (it was Simon's idea) nor can I really explain it.
In room there is no question that unplugging the CD12 improves things with more impact to the drums and bass, more tonality to the bess and more natural blend of the two voices when Eric joins in. I think this may be a trap but only in the sense that the increased clarity makes you think it is more Hi-Fi and less music. In room there is no question that this is not true.
The other part of the story is if I can really hear it as I was wrong too often in the last cases ... so much that I got consistent of being wrong ;)
Consistency can have an advantage even with being wrong - so I thought I just have to make my mind up and than just choose the opposite clip of what I think is the more musical one.
However I hear more emotion in the voices in clip 1 but clip 2 is cleaner, more focussed and especially when the two voices sing its more easy to follow both.
But its really wonderful to have many opinions and to have those clips as teaching tools.

for me most obvious while following the instruments short before his voice comes in at around 0.25-0.29min

To maffe:
In your latest clips 3a is a picture of your cat. I have a hard time comparing it to 3b! :-)

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Yes, I can now hear the trap (recording) I might have fallen in, as with the ThomasOk clips! Maybe we (I) are reaching a kind of limit when differences are small? Or I have to adjust......

Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Quick listen without headphones and preferred b on both. Will listen again later with headphones to be sure.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
Don’t think you have fallen into any trap!

I am leaning towards A.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercices
I agree with Kaos, A is better on both. Both are good but I get into A more. Now that I know what you are doing I will be double interested in the results when you give a FULL reveal.

Me too! The fat bass in clip 2 is fun but it seems a bit out of tune compared to clip 1.lejonklou wrote: ↑2020-02-26 17:46I think the first one is a little better.kallesprätt wrote: ↑2020-02-26 12:21 Which one do you prefer?
