Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I'm inclined to go with the others, not against: I think I'd choose 2/Hs over 1/Ls... I don't know that I'd decide on save or splash, tho', on the basis of these clips, unless they echo what you hear there, in room.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
The iphone might offer much better quality than my laptop. I will use it for the next round if I post anything.
Anyway thanks for the replies, the:
L-files are captured from LP12, Urika2, Ekos /SE, Kandid, Machined Radikal, songcorder on EKDSM played back though KDSM/2
The H files are files streamed directory using ROON from the KDSM/2 (HDtracks source)
The LP12 is the potential investment. Based on your feedback it would not add much to the equation for these examples.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
So H is digital played directly; L is an analog songcorder recording played back?
How about iPhone recordings of LP12 vs DS so that we can hear each 'directly' without songcorder?

I'm late to the party, so it may not matter now, but I think the L-files were considerably better.fredrik wrote: ↑2021-11-09 14:42 Anyway thanks for the replies, the:

H? L? I only saw 1.Virgin and 2.Virgin and 1.ILOMITO and 2.ILOMITO and my choice was 2.Virgin (disclaimer: I only state the name of the file I was not responsible for naming it that way) and 2.ILOMITO didnt even checked the source files as I thought you would know the difference between 1. and 2.

Prompted by fredrik referring to the "L-files...", it's in the flac file names, and displayed when listening:
(1) V-LD v V-HD (2)
(1) L-ILOMITO v H-ILOMITO (2)
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I did a virtual home dem with the tracks recorded at the dealer. Since Urika2 is digitally attached to KDSM it should be pretty close. Anyway I posted the raw captured files so you can all repeat the test against your own sources streamer/turntable.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Can I assume the recordings on this thread are made from an iPhone using the Camera app? It also looks like the iPhone is being handheld in a horizontal position with the main camera lense positioned at the hi fi so you can see both speakers. For me, that distance would be very close to the sweetspot where my ears are located.
My understanding is that the microphones, which are located on the bottom, would then be facing either the left or right adjacent wall right or left of your sweetspot hopefully not blocked from your hand holding the iPhone. Is this correct?

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
yes to all Kamera app in video mode. and yes I try to take care not block one of the mics
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Understood. I thought both sources were at home rather than a virtual home dem... No disrespect but the laptop clips do sound poor especially against the raw files - shame the dealer couldn't have 'songcordered' both analog & digital sources to compare.
It would be interesting to hear iPhone recordings rather than from the laptop mic, unless you've decided not to pursue LvH any further.
Stream vs LP12 with modern ECM recordings
So based on the prior set of recordings by Thomas and a purchase spurred by Herman of this forum, I decided to give this a go with a more current ECM recording by Nils Petter Molvaer “Khmer”.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
It appears YouTube took down the video. I received this email shortly after uploading the files. Too bad, I think It has something to do with ECM as I know Rick Beato has mentioned that ECM does not allow their music to be played on his YouTube channel. I guess I need to find other music. Any suggestions? Would that be more recent music? Not sure if mastering is the same or not.

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
They both sound quite good but I enjoyed B more than A. B sounded a bit more in tune and had me moving to the rhythm more.

That way: SATA cable direction reversed.
I have a preference for that way too.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Deltaco SATA cable? Is "direction reversed" with or against text from mobo to SSD?markiteight wrote: ↑2021-11-11 01:24

Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
Yes it's the Deltaco cable. "Direction reversed" (That way) is 'with text' from mobo to drive. IIRC we don't know how consistent is Deltaco's manufacturing, so what works for me may not work for you. Best to check yourself.
Re: Playground for practical listening exercises
I did that test way back when first putting together my Hakai. I found the same, reading from motherboard to system drive was best. In my Hakai NAS the data drive is best reading from drive to motherboard, as you'd expect. You could surmise that it's more important for the system drive to "write" than to "read".
