Hello
I need an electronic stylus balance/ trackuing force gauge. I have been considering the Pro-Ject Measure it or the Roksan, the Ortofon DS-3 or the Jelco and finally the Rega Atlas. All at different prices. Do you have any recommendations please?
Best regards Lars

Re: Electronic stylus balance?
These are are all pretty pricey; there are plenty of cheaper ones that look like the Pro-Ject. I bought mine on Amazon for € 12,99. I originally bought a Chinese one, that looked like the Ortofon (I'm sure it's made in China as well). I returned that one, because it was extremely fiddly. The Rega looks very nice though...

Thank you for your reply. Are you content with the Pro-Ject?

I use the Project and it is absolutely fine though expensive.lidsmoes wrote:Thank you for your reply. Are you content with the Pro-Ject?

I think you misunderstood me, I have a cheaper one, that looks like the Pro-Ject. You can find about 10 different brand names for the same product on Fleabay or Amazon. You set the VTF by ear anyway, the scales are just for checking/memorizing.

The Project one works OK for me, but I believe there are other ones that are a little easier to use.Tendaberry wrote:I think you misunderstood me, I have a cheaper one, that looks like the Pro-Ject. If one uses the optimal way of adjusting the tracking force on a dynamically balanced Linn arm, a digital scale is essential. Otherwise you don't know what you're doing in the last step, when fine tuning the tracking force with the counterweight.
What I'm referring to is what I described in an old thread, maybe someone can link to it? You set the spring loaded scale to between 1.7 and 1.8 and then fine tune by ear with the counterweight and a scale.

I ended up buying the Ortofon. It works very well and doesn't seem as unstable as the Pro-Ject
