AKG K550

Currently the only headphones I use at home. Great performance, but their attenuation of outside sounds is not strong. So it might depend on the environment you intend to use them in.

Thanks! I need them for live monitor listening, so quite alot attenuation of outside sounds will be required, 20-30 dB would be preferable i too like AKG in general so I will try those even if they does not give alot attenuation. That could well be modified by additional external attenuation (will probably look weird though, but who cares? It is not a beauty contest...).

For in-ears there are various Etymotic headphones. For on-ear options: give Sennheiser HD-25 a try!

Thanks! Way back when I researched headphones I just hated the Sennheizers, but if you recommend them I shall give them a try!

For me HD25 are great for various reasons. Quite comfortable once you find how to fit them, great noise isolation, every part replaceable (cable, earpieces, headband, ...), good sound quality, (kinda) portable. I once borrowed mine to a friend. Few days later he asked how much I want for them :)

I bought the AKG-550 and was satisfied with them musically, but they are not neutral enough (something I did not realise until it was apparent...), they lacks some low end so they are not optimal for monitoring, for example mic placement.

Anyone knowing anything that is more neutral sounding, while still musical? I am also considering in-ear although they are not my cup of tea. Good environmental attenuation is required though so in-ears with on ear hearing protectors could be a solution.
