On the subject of recording and distribution formats

Post by hcl »

Check THIS out!

(It is kind of long, but he is definitely nailing down a number of fundamental points on the subject of recording, distribution and reproduction of music. Among others he (might not know it, but he) seem to be a "source first" advocate.

Absolutely brilliant!

Andrew Scheps fully understands what music is really all about, despite talking sample rates, bit depth and transcoding. This is extremely rare.

I love how he keeps coming back to "the song that made your mother cry" and how lossy audio might result in her not crying. And result in you not enjoying that unfamiliar piece of music and just stick to your old favourites.

Around 1:00 he talks about the Loudness War: "We don't have to worry about that war, because I won it. I mixed Death Magnetic." Followed by a summary that I fully agree on (the problem is way overrated).

Five minutes later he mentions what kind of music you can enjoy on so-called high end audiophile systems. Ha!

I love this guy.

Thank you for this.
Very informative.

PS perhaps we should, from now own, refer to "mother's tear-dem method"........

I'm glad you like it! The way I see it, he brings forth a number of important basics, most have forgotten today.

:-) !!!
