Hi
I m looking for buying a majik 6100 amp to drive activ my majik 140. I m wondering if it s a good choice or if it could be great with akurate 2100 in passiv mode (similar price). Akurate 4200 or more is off budget at this Time (i finish my médical study in 6 month, and i v not finding yet the good nombers in the lottery...:;).
Thanks for your response

Presume you mean a 2200.Guigwen wrote:...or if it could be great with akurate 2100 in passiv mode (similar price.
Happy with my 4200 driving 140s passive (single-amp'd).
As Flatcoat mentioned, the latest Tundra 1.2 is supposed to be very good, although not heard it myself.
Do you have the steel bases for the 140s? They are definitely worthwhile, despite the retail price.
What about saving up for a DS upgrade instead? If I was unable to demo the options, then that would be my preferred route.
My dealer Say That it was a bit improvement to buy a 6100 to go aktiv, but it cannot show it at this Time.
So i m wondering if the upgrade worth it for the value. More over
There seems to be a lot or good annunce for majik 6100 occas on this forum or ebay, That s why i m wondering if i buy one or them.
I Will buy upgrade stand latter and maybe an akurate ds in a few moments
Thanks for your expérience and your respons

Never heard 140s aktiv. I'd definitely try to compare yourself as you're buying through a dealership.
Bear in mind it will make any future pre-amp upgrade less straight-forward, because you would be relying on the Majik-I's power amp.
Also, in my experience you have to be quite careful with aktiv setup for it to equal (or better) passive in all areas - I'm talking about the same quality amp here. I experienced this when I had a 6100 with aktiv Ninkas. Passive with the 6100 was a little more cohesive and some elements of timing here better until I amended the layout of the aktiv cards. After that, aktiv was better (or at worst equal) across all areas of music reproduction (with same quality amp.)
It's not to put you off, just to highlight that aktiv can be more labour intensive to optimise. There are other tweaks you can do as well, such as putting 7.5 twists into particular wires. Search the forum and you'll find lots on this. If you do this yourself, then you may invalidate any warranty. And always take anti-static precautions!
