I just found out about a record that definitely will NOT be on my playlist. I think would be in the running for most egregious money grab in the music industry, except that the industry is too rife with egregious money grabs for this to win.

It is a new two record vinyl set (some kind of marbled transparent brownish vinyl for some reason) called "The Many Faces of Led Zeppelin". After a lot of hyperbole about Led Zeppelin they say "On The Many Faces of Led Zeppelin, we will dig deep into the work of their legendary members plus we will review their timeless catalog that even today is still essential for rock fans."

To translate that for you it is a two record set with NOT A SINGLE Led Zeppelin song ACTUALLY PALYED by Led Zeppelin! (I guess many faces but not the original face.) Instead there are various songs on which Jimmy Page and/or John Paul Jones play songs other than Led Zeppelin ones (apparently Robert Plant wasn't willing to whore himself for this little ditty) along with covers of Led Zeppelin songs, mostly by people I have never heard of. But since that doesn't stretch the Led Zeppelin connection quite enough I give you what I consider probably the most atrocious inclusions on the album:

1.10 Deborah Bonham Band - Maybe I'm Amazed
1.11 Chris Farlowe - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

OK, Deborah Bonham is John's sister (although I had no idea she had ever done any music and it looks like there wasn't much) but playing "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Wings? It gets even worse with Chris Farlowe who is doing a Rolling Stones tune? He covered several Stones tunes in the late 60s and early 70s. So how is this connected to Led Zeppelin? I'm glad you asked, he sang two or three tracks on two Jimmy Page albums, one of them a movie soundtrack. So, yeah, obviously a direct connection to the music of Led Zeppelin.

I did notice that the record label got their name almost right. It is Music Brokers Arg. Should be Music Brokers Argghhh! This is also only one in a series of Many Faces releases!!! Also available for pre-order is "The Many Faces of Deep Purple". I shudder to think!

Agreed, and thanks for the heads-up Thomas. I'll be sure to avoid both albums, if I'm see them in the record stores this week.

How does it sound on vinyl, Matteo? On cd it's loudness wars par excellence, i.e. awful.

Mostly jazz spinning tonight after a classic start spiced with punk.

You'd be better off with some 70's issues, that haven't experienced any digital trickery...

But Led Zeppelin remastered? I'm skeptical. I once had an original early press in very good condition that I later sold. I felt I'd heard it enough and would never need to hear it again.

That Free album I have never seen or heard. Will give it a listen this week, thank you for the tip!

Actually, I have the 2015 remastered versions of LZI, LZII, and Presence and they sound surprisingly good (not as good as the first pressings though, but a lot cheaper ...).

Another really good ECM record from that period is The Colours of Chloe by Eberhard Weber. It is a really fine album with a lot of interesting mellow jazz on it. Reading now this conversation about Keith Jarrett and ECM. Put my hands today on those two, Facing You and The Survivors Suite. Not too bad music to listen to, not too bad recording, not too bad pressing.

Skull Snaps - Skull Snaps (1973): No, this isn't a death metal band, nor an obscure hip-hop crew! This is prime time soul-funk from 1973, if you like The O'Jays, this could be right up your alley. Strongly recommended!
