iPhone/iPad Directly to Källa?

Post by Spannko »

I don’t remember this being discussed. Has anyone tried using their iThing with 4/5G via a WAP/GS108 combo connected directly to Källa?

As opposed to what, exactly? Isn't that the typical topology?

I assume using a mobile internet connection rather than a cable/landline?

Effectively makes the set up 'mobile'

Do you mean using a 4G/5G router, Spannko?

I use a TP-link Archer MR200 4G-router in my lab. It’s powered from a strip with 3 outlets that powers nothing else. An 8.5 feet Blue Jeans Cable CAT 6a connects MR200 to Källa. No switch is necessary, as it only degrades the music when inserted between MR200 and Källa. The same conclusion was drawn with the previous 4G-router (an older TP-link which sounded worse than MR200).

A six-way power strip powers Källa and the rest of the system. The two power strips (the 3-way and the 6-way) are plugged into a dual power outlet in the wall.

Sounds very good and the whole system is very easy to move around, as the MR200 creates the same WiFi (2.4 and 5 GHz are separate networks and 5 GHz sounds a little better so it’s used for playing music on Källa) as soon as it’s switched on.

What you describe isn’t what I meant, but it’s very useful information nonetheless.

My original question was about using the iPhones built-in 4/5G modem, rather than a traditional landline modem or a standalone 4/5G modem/router (like the mr200). This would need a WAP + network switch connected to Källa.

PS. I notice there are 9 different hardware versions of the MR200. Which one are you using? I’ll get one and record some comparisons against the two different Zyxel 4/5G routers I have available, plus another 4G router I can try if my SIM card fits.

IMO, it shouldn't be too difficult to try if you are able to switch off the landline modem but have still the functionality of a router with wifi.

"(an older TP-link which sounded worse than MR200)."
Fredrik, was the older model perhaps a TP-Link Archer C7? Because that's what I'm using now, and then I know a MR200 will be better.

No, it wasn't that model. I will try to find out which one it was.
