Pop goes the Champagne! I hope Speakers Corner has ordered it, I'm looking forward to hearing it very much.

It must be extremely satisfying reaching this point with the digital project. Congratulation!

Matt,

Better than your irl impressions of the Taiko Extreme or the clips of the Linn Organik?

This is a difficult question.

I listened to the Taiko at X-Fi 2019 in the Netherlands. The Taiko is optimized for USB output to a separate DAC, so this combo was around 60k at the show. The sound was very good at ten times the price of Källa.

So far I did not yet listen to Linn Organik in the flesh, the price in Germany is around 36k, about the same as the Taiko with a very good DAC.

What I like is that Källa is optimized for playback from streaming services, particularly Spotify. Perfect for me as I do not have music files on a NAS. In addition the projected price of Källa is the maximum I would like to spend on a digital front end.

So I am curious to listen to it.

Matt

I can only echo this. Knowing the amount of time, work and frustration that went into the Källa project was only comparable to the SINGularity project, seeing it come to fruition must be a great high. Congratulations are certainly in order and great to see a Lejonklou HiFi source product! I can't wait to hear one.

How big is the influence of the rack on the performance with Källa?
Thanks

Inspired by the Organik vs LP12-thread I played some music from 2CELLOS.

This kind of music is normally not really my cup of tea. It reminds me of "elevator music". But it is great how Källa makes it come to life.

Sounds really very good - I think your onto something quite special with this Kalla/708p combo.

The JBLs actually look quite good to me , but I’m not sure my wife will agree.

Is the little box a Giella?

Källa is very good with all speakers I heard it with (Klångedang T1, JBL 308P MK1). I am sure it will work fantastic with any set of quality speakers.

The little box is a Kikkin that I am currently using as volume control between Källa and 708P (to be replaced with two other units sometime in the future..)

Yeah, both are fantastic products, for sure. But really, Källa is the key to the performance of these clips.

I had to use my Apple TV connected directly to Kikkin recently to watch the latest Apple event and it was not fun at all, it sounded pretty terrible to be honest. I re-watched some parts of it yesterday (Apple always put a lot of effort in the production of their events) with Källa and it was a mindblowing difference. So, no, the 708P is extremely demanding and unless the source is top quality, the experience is not really great at all.

OK, just an update before I create the new topic "Källa is now shipping".

I thought I'd ship the first three units tomorrow, but there is one last parameter that I need to nail before I am completely happy. It's a bit over the top actually, but I just need to get it perfect.

When each Källa is finalized, there are a few final components that are mounted and soldered in place. These are, like everything else in Källa, pre-measured and selected into groups with tiny variations between them. Only a certain combination is used and all of this has already been optimised during the last couple of years.

Except one of them, and it has been bugging me. Why? Because there's a temperature coefficient that affects its optimal selection and I don't want to use the one that's perfect in room temperature, as where the component is located it will be 10 degrees more when Källa has been running for a couple of hours.

The only way to evaluate this is by ear, measurements aren't precise enough. So in order to find the optimal selection for this last detail, a substantial amount of time is required for disassembling, changing, reassembling, letting it heat up and listening again. It's a silly small variation and its effect on the music is miniscule. But! When everything is tuned and optimised - and especially in a source component - even minuscule differences become important.

I hope you'll give me a few days more. I'll sleep much better once I know that I've nailed everything.
