Four years in the making
Källa is a digital source component that will be released in 2021.
It's more simple to use than anything I've encountered.
It's more thrilling to listen to than any digital source that I've heard.
We are three people making it: I design and tune the hardware. A programmer writes and tunes the software. An engineer does the low level programming. Everything is built from the ground up. Over the last four years, we've made a lot of discoveries, repeatedly corrected the course, replaced each and every part multiple times, ditched the entire design and restarted it. Each time we've moved a little faster from sketches and diagrams to the working prototype. And each time we've gotten a little closer to our target. A source of endless thrills.
Now we're on the last stretch. I will write some news here every now and then.
This forum has the best members I have ever seen on an internet forum. The pool of knowledge, experience, wisdom, inspiration and innovation goes deep. There's a willingness to help and to be happy when others succeed. This is unique. By having an entire forum section for Källa there's room for many separate threads, like recommended components, user experiences, comparisons between streaming services, questions&answers and things I haven't even thought about. But you probably have already! I think this forum will push Källa even further.
Källa is one box only. And you'll need an Apple device.

That is exciting. Congratulations on the effort, discoveries, persistence, and realisation. I hope its success reflects everything that has gone into it, and more.
Re: Four years in the making
Wait, what!?
What could possibly create this requirement.. are you using AirPlay? That doesn't seem at all likely, but I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with any other explanation.. unless it's simply that the control interface is only realized as a Apple app. In which case it's technically possible that other platforms can also be supported down the line. I hope that's the case.
Re: Four years in the making
Källa uses the same basic communication protocol as Airplay™ does. But ours is written entirely in-house and tuned for maximum musicality. The difference between them is staggering. That's why I recommend an Apple device.teatime wrote: ↑2021-04-18 01:07Wait, what!?

Cast, which is used on Android devices, has been tested but not incorporated because we haven't been able to make it nearly as good.
Re: Four years in the making
I just get more questions. :D
I'll leave it alone for now. I'm sure there will be more information coming..
(Though it does sound like all that is really needed is a device that can speak the correct protocol. Perhaps something like OwnTone would work...?)

Re: Four years in the making
OwnTone will likely work, but hasn't yet been tested.
Same applies to Airparrot 3 from a computer running Windows.
Those options are for the computer savvy. With an Apple device, there is zero installation or knowledge required.

Re: Four years in the making
Sounds great :-)
Will it allow streaming from Qobuz and Spotify?
What is the interface for connecting a DAC?
Thanks
Matt

Re: Four years in the making
This is most exciting news!!
I'm not yet taking part of the Apple ecosystem, so what device is the most convenient to use while giving the best possible sound quality?
2 thumbs up for the very back to basics name of the box :)

Källa = Source
I just bought Fredriks Hakai, guess it will move to my summer house :)
Re: Four years in the making
when I saw Fredrik and shortly after Erik selling his HAKAI and the Intel hard drives I knew there is something big to come. Any ballpark for price? Below 5000 Euro or below 10000 Euro? Or above?
Actually I thought I was done with Digital but ... (there seems to be always a but)
I wish you big success!

Re: Four years in the making
why do you think you need to connect a dac? my guess is we might see a resistor ladder dac as thats what Fredrik is really good at - selecting the right components to an incredible low difference level.
Re: Four years in the making
Congrats Fredrik and co. Sounds like a lot of hard work has gone into this. You must have learned a lot. Look forward to some pics.

Very very exciting indeed. I’m itching to hear more details.
If you need someone to try one out in the UK .... :-)

Re: Four years in the making
Marvellous!
Recommended components? I'm intrigued to see what this means...
And also happy to help with UK testing... :)
