Defender wrote: 2022-03-12 11:05 .. I had marked my Blue Jeans Cables according to their measured performance (you get a protocol with measurements when you buy Blue Jeans Cables). During the change I have switched the one Blue Jeans Cable which feeds the GS108 for the other with the better measured performance...
Can I ask: which measurement(s) from Blue Jeans are you going by? I have 4 with slightly different headroom (dB) and Resistance (ohms) - they all have the same Prop. Delay & Delay Skew (ns)

Are you selecting the higher headroom / lower resistance cable as "better measured performance", or is 'better' based on another measurement?
yes I marked them according to the highest headroom and lowest resistance but thats useless as Fredrik stated. I didn’t expected to hear differences with blue jeans cables but they are there.
So best test them.

I can send you a couple of Amplifi’s for you to try in your own system. Your impression of them would be very valuable!
you dont like what they do?

I intend to record a comparison between the Virgin/Netgear routers and the Amplifi router followed by the Amplifi mesh vs a wired connection. Then hearing what the Amplifi’s do in David Neal’s system will add to our knowledge base. Hopefully, some useful patterns will emerge.

I'm liking warm better, it engages me more. On cool on the conga part of the intro I kept waiting for the guitar to come back in, on warm I just enjoyed the conga.

It was good to hear this in stereo. We used to play the DVD as a demo often in the store when it came out. While it was great musically it was a perfect example of how to do surround sound poorly. Nothing like seeing the conga player on the stage behind the guitarists and hear him playing from behind the left side of your head!

Spannko wrote: 2022-03-15 17:30 Here’s the first in a series of recordings of network components and network topologies. It’s a comparison between the router section of a Virgin Hub 4 and a dedicated Netgear router. I’ve tried to ensure that the only difference is the change in routers: in both cases Källa has the same static IP address and the volume on the Boazu was untouched. To be precise, the VH4 is being compared to a Netgear BS200 connected to the VH4 modem with 3m of Meicord Ethernet cable.

One has a warm tone, and the other a cool tone (colour tone, not sound tone!) but which do you prefer? I’ll reveal the identities on Thursday morning.

Spontaneously I prefer warm. It does also seem a little blurred. Perhaps more of a sound difference than a musical one?

Before you introduce another comparison, why don’t you tell us about the last one?

ie 9.24 vs 9.28

I struggle to hear a difference in timing via tune method, but I respond more positively to 9.24.

Listened via headphones on desktop.

Played via my Android phone speakers, there is a starker tonal difference. 9.28 sounds flatter and harsher. I do not hear this difference on my desktop tho.

28 > 24 - marginal and based more on the timing of 28 over 24...

All the same cables, just moved from one socket to another.

Apologies if you’ve already explained this before, but why are you using two switches in series?

And have you tried replacing the first switch in the left sketch with the Ubiquity?

For a more complete picture, what was the config with & without BR200: just router to switch to switch to Kalla, all cabled, no Ubiquiti WAP?

So, first clips comparing router sections: VH4 vs BR200. Second clips comparing wireless access: VH4 vs Ubiquiti (& where best to connect the WAP), correct? Are you going to do WAP connected to the second 108*, as well? :)

* subject to Fredrik's question, of course ;)

IIUC, in second clips WAP is Ubiquiti (not VH4) but in different position.

Yes, then we have to compare no switch vs one vs two?

IIUC, the BR200 has no wifi onboard and needs the Ubiquiti WAP in contrast to the VH4.

I like 9.28 better. It just seems to hold together a bit better for me. Although it took me going back again to figure out which is which since it only shows up faintly at the bottom right corner before I start the clip playing and then disappears. I didn't even notice it the first time I played the clips and looked all over for the indication.

But the turntable used in making both clips is running pretty slow. ;-)

Yes, you're right... Getting confused since we don't have the diagram of the first round: since the BR200 isn't a wireless router, then what was the alternate wireless access point in the first clips: VH4 vs ???, and how/where was it connected... or am I even more confused than I realise :?

It does all seem to be a little complex compared to Fredrik's suggested, simple setup... unless that didn't work for Spannko :/

It’s in modem mode, ie WiFi and internal router switched off.

Unfortunately, the first switch is necessary to expand the number of Ethernet outputs for distribution around the home.

The Amplifi HD doesn’t have enough Ethernet outputs to dispense with the switch. However, it’s occurred to me that the Amplifi HD could replace the BR200.
