Upmpdcli and mpd on separate streamer and NAS

Anyone using Snakeoil on separate streamer and NAS with upmpdcli on NAS and mpd on streamer?

I'm currently running upmpdcli+mpd on the streamer, but considering experimenting with just mpd on the streamer, running upmpdcli on the NAS.

Pete,

I run Minimserver on the NAS and upmpdcli on the player. If you choose that approach the player uses the latest version of MPD that SnakeOil OS has by default.

I've allocated the player process to one cpu and set the process priority, but SO has applied it only to upmpdcli, not mpd. I'll see if applying these tweaks to mpd improves audio, which I think means I have to run upmpdcli on the NAS

I just tried this experiment.

Player on PC1 with just mpd v0.21.22 running in RT priority

NAS on PC2 with upmpdcli 1.4.12 running in RT priority

I was interested to hear the difference resulting from separating these two processes onto different machines.

I played tracks streamed from Qobuz to minimise the impact of MinimServer, which was also running on the NAS.

I couldn't detect a difference in timing, but this configuration sounds less engaging, less able to hold my attention.

Returning upmpdcli to PC1 , so both mpd and upmpdcli on the same PC restored engagement.
